Subject: Tweak for the Fire tree - Imp. Fireball
Seeing as Pyroblast is now a prerequisite for Blast Wave (a token spell of most fire speced mages), would it be possible for Improved Fireball to reduce the cast time of Pyroblast? Something to the tune of .4 seconds per talent point, thus cutting down our 6 second nuke into something that might actually be able to be casted in the midst of combat (4 seconds)?

Put it in line with the Bane talent that the warlock has.

A traditional elemental spec (in 1.10) rarely included Pyroblast in it's make up. Since the change, Blizzard is promoting the "Elemental" specs, yet placed Pyroblast as a prereq for Blast Wave, which, in 1.10 was usually an intergal part of an Elemental build. It gives the build that which Elemental was king at, burst-AoE damage. Is there a reason we cannot improve the casting time of this spell (seeing it's on a 1 min cooldown anyways)?
You can't spell Damage without Mage.

So? If they expect us to use it mid-combat, it needs to be quicker than 6 seconds.

If you are so keen on using it in PvP combat, why not use PoM with it? It has no cooldown, so it can conceivably hit a target twice in the period of 1-2 secs. Reducing the cast time just turns it into a fireball, as we would then have to up the cooldown or decrease the damage.

Q u o t e:
Dear Ozlo,

Blizzard did not say anything about making elementalist spec viable for all play styles or for all situations. There is no talent build that is viable for all play styles and for all situations. If there were, then we'd all spec that way, and what would be the fun in that?

Previously, elemental spec was not viable for raiding PVE. Now it is quite viable for raiding PVE. Ergo, a great many mages can spec elemental in 1.11 that cannot in 1.10.

Is Elemental spec viable for PVP? Well, I'm sure some will say "yes" and some will say "no". Perhaps it's not viable for your PVP play style. That hardly makes the spec useless, or what Tseric said untrue.

If you plan on doing a lot of one-on-one PVP, you should seriously think about a spec that includes PoM (and improved counterspell). If the only PVP you're going to do is battlegrounds (esp. AV) then an elemental spec may serve you quite well, or may not, depending on your playstyle.

While you may not find any great uses for pyroblast (even though others do, it's still a great PVE opener), spending one talent point in Pyroblast is not going to ruin your elemental build. It's not nearly as painful as two points in imp frost nova, especially if you're going for the 0/31/20 or 0/30/21 elemental builds.

At least some people can infer my meaning. The first paragraph of this quote is the most important, but the follow-ups have merit as well.
