A long time ago, back when I was still in Ashenvale, I ran into a night elf and we began to play around with emotes. Suddenly, I was struck with an idea and sat down, then said in troll "Sit". This I repeated until he figured out what I was doing, and he did the same in common. We did this for some time, trying to figure out the words for things like walk, and laugh, etc. However, when I tried to teach him "heal" he created a horde alt to tell me that the word for heal had been the same as the word for "walk", and he doubted there was any real pattern to the languages.
Now, having essentially moved to an RP server (PvPRP actually), the question of languages has risen again, and I was wondering if there is any actual substance to the WoW languages. Is is possible to learn some of the language? Are they real at all? I know at least that "bur" in common appears with regular frequency as "lol", so are there some set words while others are just randomly generated?

The words show up as random letters if you read something from another language.

The developers did not want players communicating accross factions, so they didn't make it possible. It is by design, and has nothing to do with being lazy.
