Subject: Blue's thoughts on Twinks

It's come up several times in various threads and I'm tired of simply saying "I think it was said by X" and "I remember it being in thread Y" but I'd like to get a definite answer on this to help settle disputes that seem to pop up near-daily.

Whether I get a direct response from one of the Blue folks around here, or a link from one of my fellow players to the thread with a quote regarding their stance on the subject...

I'm looking to find the response (which I keep crediting Drysc with, as I'm fairly sure that's who said it) that clarifies Blizzard's views on the idea of players Twinking in Battlegrounds. I'm not looking for insight as to how you're go to "fix" it, as my signature links to a thread I've been told is similar to what is being implemented, but I'd like to know how the Blue group feels about Twinks and their ability to get and enchant the gear they use in Battlegrounds.

Thanks.

I posted in a few threads, I think we can mark this as the third, concerning twinks. There are websites that ‘track’ posts made in ‘blue’ but I’m not sure if they have retained a carbon copy of each scribed masterpiece. I’ll leave you to that, but to sum up a general statement, twinking has developed as its own culture to some degree within the game. It has become an unintended game within the larger game, which a lot of people seem to enjoy participating in. What I know from the reaction the word will bring about upon its very mention is that it can be frustrating to play against a twink. However, from what I know of twinking and the people involved, they don’t all twink to run over lesser geared players. There are going to be some, and they will spend as much money as possible if it means they can cause someone some small amount of grief (there are a lot of sad, lonely people in the world), but that isn’t an accurate picture of what the twinking metagame has evolved into.

To address gear and organizational advantages overall for the battlegrounds, we have the matching system going in when the expansion releases. While we want those who enjoy a specific level of character and the fun of squeezing every bit of power you can from the game to continue doing so, we want to limit how much further they can go. We will be looking into applying level restrictions for future enchantments, which won’t reduce the power of a twink now, but coupled with the matching system should help ensure they don’t get too much more powerful and are kept kind of separate from players just jumping into a BG on their way to 60.

Impersonating a Blizzard employee is a bannable offense, and spreading false information to boot. If you do work here though stop by tomorrow and we can talk.

MUFFINS, Drysc, the term you personally gave twinks was 'muffins', we've been over this!

Fixed.

Q u o t e:

Is that "future enchantments" meaning enchants that will be introduced to the game at a later time, or does it mean to any enchant from point A on without anything being done to the enchants already out there?

The second one.

My pleasure. It's nice to know that threads proposing concern or a question in a rational manner still exist.

Q u o t e:
I honestly like the idea of keeping certain degrees of twinked characters apart from lesser-powered twinks and BG "casuals" (though I hesitate to use the word, what with the casual/raider/hardcore debates), however I feel that adding level restrictions to prevent further twinks will simply leave the current twinks as the BG elite crowd who will be left to battle each other for all eternity. You gotta give a little love to them and supply them with fresh challenges, no? Yes, it'd get rediculous with the Burning Crusade enchants up to skill 375 being placed on level 19 characters, but with the sorting system in place they should be facing equals, right?

While I can't think of anything specifically, the expansion itself is sure to provide some unique challenges and additions to any muffin's aresenal. However, purposefully rewarding or supplying the practice is something that we're not quite comfortable doing just yet. It's something that has developed outside of our direct influence, so putting our hand in that primordial pool could have an unintended outcome.

Of course anything concerning the expansion is subject to change, including level restrictions on enchants.
