One of the things WoW is missing that I really enjoy is a good 1st person view. By "good" 1st person view, I mean where it shows both your arms and what you were holding in them (if things not sheathed). Like if you had a sword and shield, it would show your two arms outstretched and swinging/blocking with the sword/shield. It would be really neat. If you died it could also show you falling to the ground. Basically a good 1st person view where arms/weapons/shield is shown, and you can also see yourself casting a spell. While you are at it, where is the sheath for your main weapon? I always found it corny how your weapons/shields just float attached to you. Just some opinions, feel free to share your views.
PS: Something I really like about the new Oblivion, is that they are doing a fast-paced combat system where you actually have to block/swing your weapon. If WoW had that I think it would be alot more fun (it already is great fun though).

It was a decision made early on not to include a first person view and to design the game around using a third person view only. We of course allow you to zoom all the way in, and you're welcome to play that way; however, it's really mostly only intended to capture screenshots.
We're not currently planning to implement a fully 'functional' first person view like other games may have, aside from the large undertaking it would be to implement correctly, it just isn't part of the original design of the game. We prefer the game to be played from a third person perspective and the environments and encounters are designed around that preference.

What about allowing me to zoom out a bit farther?
I play on a pretty big screen and I wouldn't mind pulling back the view even further.
Interface Options
"Max Camera Distance" slider in the lower right
Personally I like to zoom out really far too, so I have it set all the way to High. I'm not sure if you can go beyond that by editing the text file someone else recommended.

You can zoom all the way in, but it doesn't provide some players with the viewpoint they would like, such as an actual in-character view. Meaning being able to see your hands with weapons in-tow, feet, etc.
