Subject: Arena system to reward time invested?

So, I'm really excited about the arena season starting. I'm forming a team, devising strategies, and encouraging my buddies all to gear up with the appropriate stats. I have one question though, the answer to which will determine whether or not I have a long-term future in WoW: does it matter how many matches you fight, or simply how often you win against equally ranked teams? In other words, will a team that fights 10 matches per week be worse off in terms of points than a team that fights 10 matches per day, assuming they both have similar win/loss ratios?

I hope the answer is that it doesn't matter; I would hate for the Arena system to turn into the Honor Grind v. 2.0. The designers have started that their intent with this new PvP system was to reward player skill, as opposed to time invested. Let's hope this turns out to be the case! Anyone know anything for certain?

Well, I just lost a three paragraph post, so let me sum up what I was going to say.

With the ELO system your wins and losses are dependent upon your team's ranking as compared to the ranking of the team you're winning and losing against. The system encourages playing as few games as possible (in this case 10) and playing them well. As you begin to play past those 10 your chances or losing and either losing progress or even ending up lower than if you had stopped at 10 begins to rise rapidly. If your team plays your 10 games and you do well and continue to play and win then you're going to rise through the ranks quicker, and it's probably deserved as you're not losing. However, if your team loses a game you're risking a huge setback.

The first couple weeks of each new season is going to see some rapid movement as all of the teams settle into their general ranks. If a team tries playing as many games as possible in attempts to beat the odds it's likely that you'll see them cut back in future weeks as the payoff is usually going to be minimal and the risk extremely high.

Q u o t e:
Biggest problem with the way you state the arena system works, is no one wants to play 10 matches over 3 months and not be able to play again for fear of losing a match and getting setback 3 weeks in progress. In case you missed the idea of PvP it means to do it as much as you want without fear of punishment for a loss, kinda like how you did away with xp loss for PvE deaths.

It's 10 games per week minimum with the arena points rewarded based on your ranking at the end of each week. You could play those 10 games within a matter of 30 minutes probably if you wanted. It's likely that the majority of time will be spent practicing and gearing up.

If you want to PvP as much as you want with no fear of punishment for a loss then the battlegrounds and world PvP are just a few mouse clicks away. The arena system offers something different. If it doesn't appeal to you there are other options.

As far as I can remember we've never had an XP loss for death in the game at any point, even in alpha.
