Subject: Hardware sound acceleration is back

As of build 7468, hardware sound acceleration has returned. I turned it back on and poof, all my sound problems were gone. I can hear myself cast again, no more clipped sounds, ...

Did anyone notice it in an earlier build, or am I just now noticing it?

If you have any specific bug reports involving hardware sound mode, please add to the sound bug thread stickied at top of forum.

Q u o t e:

I'll never understand why there was no assurance from Blizzard that the sound would be fixed, but eh, its fixed.

It wouldn't have made sense to promise that when (at the time) it was not clear if it was going to work out reliably or not. Since we're still getting bug reports on the hardware sound support, you can tell it is still a work in progress.

What's going on is that our sound engine only support hardware sound acceleration via MS provided API's such as DirectSound 3D.

DirectSound 3D isn't available in hardware accelerated form on Vista as it is on XP.
