Many people are getting an error message that says:
"This update does not need to be applied. It requires version 2.1.3.6898 of "WoW.exe", but you already have version 2.2.0.7272."
This is because the live realms were updated after the latest PTR patcher was updated. If you did not update the PTR before updating your live build you will not currently be able to update your PTR.
We are working on a solution but do not have an ETA. Until then please go and enjoy the new 2.2 Patch on the live servers and check back here later for an update.

This has nothing to do with the registry. The patch is incapable of being applied over a version it was not created for.
This is the first time we have had a PTR running before the previous version had been pushed to live and is not a situation we were prepared form.

UPDATE: We are in the process of deploying a new patch that will resolve this issue. I will post again when I have more information.

UPDATE: A new version of the patch has been deployed to fix this problem.

A new patch to resolve this problem has been deployed.
