Subject: Why is 1280x800 reso different on PTR?

I have a widescreen laptop with a native resolution of 1280x800, which is the same resolution I play WoW at. Thing is, there seems to be a difference in what the live and PTR clients think 1280x800 is.

Here's a screenshot (It's a pretty large file, so dialup beware)

Any ideas? As you can see my video settings are identical for both.

Hi Iddqd,

Can you post DXdiag information for your computer?

Q. How can I provide you with more information about my computer?
A. On windows PCs please provide the DXDiag information.
To test and obtain the DXDIAG information, please follow the instructions below:

Important Note: Please reboot your system prior to creating the dxdiag and files.

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Run.
3. Type in DXDIAG and press Enter or click OK, this will open the DirectX diagnostic tool. Run the DirectDraw, Direct3D and DirectSound tests found under the Display and Sound tabs before creating the dxdiag.txt file.
4. Click on the Save All Information Button (save this file to your windows desktop and name it dxdiag).

Ok, I've done a little research and it looks like a bug was fixed in 2.2 that caused you to lose aspect ratio in windowed mode. That seems to be what is causing this. In 2.2 when going into windowed mode the window will adjust to fit the desktop AND maintain the correct aspect ratio.

Since your desktop is slightly shorter than 800 (because of your windows bar) it has to also make the window slightly narrower to maintain the correct ratio.

Q u o t e:
Alright cool, thank you :)

I also get noticeably higher FPS when playing on PTR (10-30 more depending on the area), is this due to the bug you're talking about?

It could be, there were also a lot of bugs that were causing some people to have low framerates fixed in 2.2.
