... to healing spells. all too often when i attempt to heal myself in combat, it registers on a totem instead. this is not readily apparent because the heal spell still casts, youjust get a "target is immune" message afterwards.
this heal immunity check needs to occur BEFORE the thing casts, not after. an "invalid target" message needs to be generated so that the cast doesnt even take place.

Targeting would seem to be the first obstacle to this situation.
I don't know how viable it would be to have the check prior to casting, as over-healing or healing an 'unnecessary' target is intentionally left open-ended. Meaning, you won't be stopped from casting a heal spell because the target has enough health already. Any heal spells are generally regarded as a decision for the player to cast or don't, not the game to decide if it's 'the right thing to do'.
I can inquire into this specific functionality, though. But, I'll leave the disclaimer that this is very likely acceptable functionality, as you shouldn't be trying to heal your totems ;)

Q u o t e: It is impossible to hael many escort quest NPC's. Perhaps the same coding that makes it so you cant heal them could be applied to totems, although Im not sure if that would mess up the way that totems interacted with players.
I don't know either, but it's an interesting point that could relate to this.
