I just copied a pre-made character to the PvP test realm, and a hunter to the RPPvP test realm, and every time I try logging in it closes WoW and gives a "Critical Error" page. Does anyone know how to prevent this?

Wanted to tie this thread up from home.
Can you guys do this for me?
1) Go to the username/password screen with WoWtest.exe.
2) Look in the bottom left hand corner.
It should say something like...
"Version x.x.x (xxxx)"
What does it say? This way we can see if it's the proper build.[ post edited by Averinn ]

You're not an idiot at all. It sounds like a bug in this test patch using (and not deleting) one of the old 1.11 existing test patches. This is also valuable testing and it's a pleasure to assist you through it. Even on personal time. It's much better to catch this now, during test, than have millions be confused on live.
My apologies for the frustration.
For anyone still having this problem I will walk ya through it :)
It basically involves:
1) Deleting the "WoWTest" folder.
2) Finding any old test patches in your WoW directory.
3) Deleting those. (Make sure they're test patches.)
4) Redownloading a fresh patch from the site.

Do you have the patch in the root directory of your WoW? It won't run from any other area because it won't be able to find the files. You have to have it in the same folder as wow.exe and all that. [ post edited by Averinn ]

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on these. QA will be trying to reproduce it tomorrow and we should be able to see where it's breaking. Once I have that information, I will post up a comprehensive sticky. I'm a little wary of posting it up when I haven't seen the issue for myself yet. Troubleshooting remotely can be tough work since you're working in the dark (kudos to our tech support and customer support people for it).

Yes, anything in your Wow-patch folder is safe to delete.

Looks like you have the right patch.
1) Cut that .exe file (right click and select "Cut").
2) Move up a directory to World of Warcraft (where Wow.exe is).
3) Paste it anywhere in there (right click on empty space and "Paste").
4) Double click the .exe file now.

I think it'd be safer if you went into the wow-patch folder and then deleted any files inside there. Just incase, so there are no other folders accidentally deleted. Yes though, this folder is safe to delete.

That's more blue than I can shake a sword at! QA is generally a bit quieter since we're in the business of gathering/reporting bugs. Our team tries to keep constant 24hr communication on the forums incase of emergencies and for moderation purposes though :)

Do you know where you installed WoW? It won't be in your documents.
It should be somewhere like c:\Program Files\World of Warcraft. Let me know when you're in that folder.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, if you're able to still play retail you should be able to play on the test server :)
For example at home here I have my WoW in the
D:\games\World of Warcraft directory. If you feel more comfortable that way though and you still have problems feel free to post here and I'll see it tomorrow most likely.

You don't need to cut anything. If you see wowtest.exe in your "Wowtest" folder, you're all set! Just double click "wowtest.exe" and have fun on the PTR's!

You said you couldn't find how to access the wowtest client in your original post. I just showed you where it's at. It should load up just fine.
Again, your Wowtest.exe file needs to be in your "WoWTest" folder in order to work. DO NOT move it. The reason I told the other person to move theirs was because it was a patch, not the game client.
You already have the game client installed so yours should work just fine.

Follow these instructions carefully.
1) Delete your entire "WoWTest" folder.
2) Go into your "wow-patch" folder and delete everything inside there (if there is anything).
3) Download the 0.12.0 downloader from here:
Windows-

You should delete the entire wowtest folder.

Then you should redownload the newest test-patch file.

You won't be able to log in with any other game version.
