Hi all,
I'm posting this as a response to (or, rather, an alternative to) two threads that I've been paying attention to, both about the new Rank 7 water:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-mage&t=93887&p=1&tmp=1#post93887
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-realm-test&t=1424&p=1&tmp=1#post1424
Some really interesting points have been made in both of these, but they both seem to have spiraled out of control and off the original poster's intent. This is the water model we're told is being used by you guys on the test realms:
Conjured Crystal Water
Conjured Item
Requires lvl 55
Use: Restores 4200 mana over 30 sec. Must remain seated while drinking.
4 per conjure, 780 mana per conjure
My purpose in posting here is this: I'd like to understand the rationale for only 4 water conjured per cast. I'd like to hear feedback from players on the test realms (and especially a blue, if possible), as to some possible reasons why this is. A postee put the question like this: "What is the balance reason for only 4 water conjured per cast?"
That said, I want to make absolutely clear my own feelings and desires for this post:
I am ecstatic that we are receiving level 60 water. I am not complaining about it.
I hope that this thread does not degenerate into what the other posts have. Namely, MAGE: "I'm only making enough water for myself and not giving any to anyone else." PRIEST: "THEN I'M NOT GOING TO HEAL YOU!" MAGE: "THEN I WON'T INT BUFF YOU!"
I am not necessarily advocating increasing the number of waters conjured; if someone can explain why summoning more water per cast would be unbalancing, I will be happy to accept 4 per cast.
I know that there is usually some time spent waiting around before large instances in which a mage could conjure all the water necessary. It is not a debilitating problem that will destroy mages forever and ever. However, I think that we have an uncommon opportunity to be in conversation with the devs. As such, we shouldn't just think of ways to deal with what we're given, but maybe to help shape we're given.
Let's make this a constructive post for the community and devs alike.
My own thoughts in the next post.
Best,

Here is how the Mage ‘Conjure Water' spell currently functions:
At rank 5, for example, when you acquire the spell at level 40, you can only conjure 2 water. Each additional level you gain over level 40 allows you to create an additional 2 water with a cap of 20.
Eg:
Level 40 -- Conjure Water rank 5 -- Yields 2 water
Level 41 -- Conjure Water rank 5 -- Yields 4 water
Level 42 -- Conjure Water rank 5 -- Yields 6 water
Etc…
At level 50, you acquire the spell Conjure Water rank 6. When you acquire the new spell, you are dropped back down to only being able to create 2 of the new kind of water:
Eg:
Level 50 -- Conjure Water rank 5 -- Yields 20 water
Level 50 -- Conjure Water rank 6 -- Yields 2 water
Level 51 -- Conjure Water rank 6 -- Yields 4 water
Level 52 -- Conjure Water rank 6 -- Yields 6 water
Etc…
When you reach level 60 and acquire the spell Conjure Water rank 7, to hold consistency, this same rule is enforced. In consideration of the fact that you cannot level up past 60 though, the number of created water has been increased from 2 to 4. This has been boosted so that it is not overly annoying or time consuming to have to cast the spell multiple times.
Eg:
Level 60 -- Conjure Water rank 5 -- Yields 20 water
Level 60 -- Conjure Water rank 6 -- Yields 20 water
Level 60 -- Conjure Water rank 7 -- Yields 4 water (up from 2)

At the moment I have no answer to this other than that it remains at 4 to preserve the consistency of how the spell functions at lower levels.
However, all of your feedback and suggestions have been noted and forwarded to the designers.
I will update this post should I be able to provide any more updates on this topic.
