Have mages forgot how to learn anything new. I thought for sure, being a mage since the start of this game, that we would be introduced to new talents, new spells by this time. Read the desires and thoughts that the mage community have come up with over the year plus we have been contributing to this game. I think it is fair to say you guys let us down.
Everyone decided that evocation and arcane explosion needed to be trainded spells rather than talents because of how useful and desired they are. Considering how they made the arcane tree, what they were replaced with are really lackluster talents, barely worth the thought. It seems Blizzard just didn't want to be creative with the mage class.[ post edited by Myrkul ]

Realistically, Evocation and Arcane Explosion and Conjur Food are new spells.
Otherwise, this was a talent review, not a recreation of the mage class.

Much of the reasoning presented by Mages was that too many talent points had to be committed to the Arcane tree. While some of the 'must-haves' are still there (PoM, ICS), the Arcane tree was de-emphasized. It wasn't buffed in a linear sense, hence the Arcane Power nerf. It was consolidated with rank movement and things like Magic Attunement and Arcane Meditation.
