She/he is not trying to help us at all. She was mearely sent here to calm our community down.
Facts:
We were the first class to receive talents (Closed beta)
Our class hasnt gotten anything since then, except constant nerfs to the core aspects of our classes (Damage nerfed, CC nerfed, AOEs nerfed).
Other classes, who arent in nearely as much in need for a review, are going to get theirs first. We are scheduled to go last, or second to last. For those of you who dont know - there's only 1 patch a month (if that). There's only 1 class review per patch. With that information, our review isnt for atleast another 3 months. ATLEAST.
They're reviewing SHAMANS before us. Shamans
The developers KNEW about our problems, over 6 months ago. Eyonix came and was collecting feedback then. We gave him it. In turn he gave us mage armor and PVP nerfs, which was the exact opposite of what everyone told him. He stated there would be "more to come" and never came back.
These new CMs only appeared in our forums after the organization of protests(yes, the same ones warriors did and got their changes) started.
To those who are willing to wait that long, good luck. To those who arent, I suggest rerolling another character. To any CMs or developers reading this, you're doing a horrible job.
Take to the sky with a natural high

I'm going to speak plainly on this matter.
A large uprising or outcry is, honestly, probably not going to change the order of priority of class reviews.
There are 60 mages on the development team. They know where the class stands. Just to debunk all the arguments that come up when I state that level 60 of X class does exist on the team: yes, they levelled them legitimately; yes, they're on a live realm; yes, they're in a guild with other players; no, they do not have privileges outside a normal player; no, they did not get equipped with the best gear from the start; yes, they have to earn said gear the same way you do; yes, they participate in both PvP and PvE extensively. So when I say "There are level 60 Mages on the development team", I'm saying they are people who play out there just like you.
Even knowing what they do, they are of the mind that the Mage can wait for the moment -- for the most part. As you've seen in patches, just because we focus on one class for review does not mean we completely ignore all other classes. Your talent-focused review may be a ways down the line, but that does not exclude the developers from touching Mages until then. You won't be ignored.
As you've said, your core issues aren't really with talents, anyway. Those of you making claims that casters themselves need a long look and review -- all right, but do you honestly think that could happen in a day? Potentially changing a huge portion of the game like that is extremely dangerous to contemplate, let alone undertake. If you're looking for a huge overhaul of the way a significant mechanic works, you're also looking at a long time out. That's not even priorities talking, that's just speaking about sheer workload.
Of course, I'm not saying that's going to happen, either. Just pontificating.
I know I'm not telling you what you want to hear. I honestly wish I could. There's nothing I'd enjoy more than sweeping in here and giving you an elaborate list of positive changes coming to your class that will be implemented in the hour. I can't do that, however, and so I'm just laying things out as they are. Your class will be tweaked we patch the game; the designers are doing all they can to fix the bugs.
Should you expect a complete overhaul of your class when the review comes up? Honestly, no. The developers are fairly happy with the concept of the Mage as it stands, and you should not build yourself up to get a complete revamp when it most likely won't happen. This is a simple forewarning.
A fun fact for you is that we've never actually reacted to a class protest by giving them their changes more quickly. We've had some coincidental timing, unfortunately, that makes it appear as if the schedule was changed to accomodate the anger of the people, but that's simply untrue. The best way to get your voice heard is not through protests, uprisings or outcries, but civil, constructive feedback to us. We do take your feedback to the developers. When Tseric was duking it out with you initially, I saw his lengthy report on the state of the class as you -- the players -- told it get sent up to the design team. If you want to get organized in some fashion and work together to collect your top issues, and use a group like the "Mage Union" to do so, fabulous! It's better than the squabbling that can happen from time to time on feedback threads when many groups disagree on what the top issue happens to be. However, I would suggest you use said organization for constructive and positive purposes rather than rebellion. Promoting an Us vs. Them atmosphere will only prevent us from bringing your feedback to the developers in the most comprehensive way.
Some are upset that we're not level 60 Mages and as such we don't have a first-person perspective. I can understand that completely, but again, here's the simple truth for you, and it won't be changing: you're not getting a level 60 Mage CM in here anytime soon. You're not getting a developer with a level 60 Mage to post here. It will not be happening. We are what you have. Instead of fighting against us and demanding to get something we literally cannot give you, we'd all prefer it if you worked with us. So you say we don't understand your plight? Instead of saying we're idiots, why not describe it for us? We're honestly not stupid, and we have a decent comprehension of the game as a whole. We want to work with you on this, but it does take both sides doing so in order for such a plan to function. Some of you have been doing that already, and to you, I give a heartfelt thanks, as it's your posts we take to the developers.
I would rather we all work toward the common goal of getting your issues heard and understood, to work with the designers to get a compromise in game as soon as is feasible (which may not necessarily be the time you desire, mind you), rather than fight with a community we are attempting to aid.
It's dark.

Q u o t e: One simple question for you Cay, and its the question most mages are wondering about:
Will we ever be given back our slot as a lead DPS class? OR will we remain as a utility class? I believe you can answer that one question without breaking your NDA, and it would lessen the "sting" if we get to our review, and mages maintain their role. I ask because you have stated that devs believe we are balanced currently - as a utility class.
Please, no side stepping, just a simple answer would be great. I'm asking respectfully, because its the one question that summarizes all of the other mage questions.
I'm going to tell you this, right now:
NO class is going to be designated #1 DPS class. Period. Not Mages, not Rogues, not any other class. If you're seeking that title, I'm sorry, but it will not be granted to you.
Now, your role in a group is largely damage, yes. But please don't go seeking "I'm the best at damage" titles, because the developers have no plans to crown any one class king of that arena as long as there are multiple classes focused on damage as their primary role.
It's dark.

Q u o t e: Please Cay, I asked nicely for no sidestepping. You know very well by chief dps I'm referring to the original game manual which clearly stated that we had damage high to a point that the only class who would come close was the rogue. Its in black and white in every one of our manuals.
We're supposed to be lead DPS in blizzard's own words. If we're not going to be getting a lead dps slot, and only do comperable damage to other classes, will we get equivilent armor to those other classes?
Just answer the original question, please.
I answered the question in the manner I'm able to answer the question. It's as straight as I can possibly be.
If I need to spell it out for you, I will:
No class, including Mages, will be crowned #1 DPS class as long as there are multiple classes dedicated to DPS. The manual unfortunately had poor wording in this case and is not current. The website is the place you should be looking for such information.
I was unaware I needed to be any clearer than that. That's not a sidestep, it's an answer. A clear, plain answer. It's just not a one-word answer.

Korvac, we tell the developers what your thoughts are, but the developers are in fact allowed to say "No."
Numerodos, there are no plans to my knowledge to give Mages heavier armor.
Let's take Rogues, since it's fairly clear this is the other class majorly dedicated to DPS, right? Now, let's say Rogues did exactly the same amount of damage you did. Rogues wear leather. You wear cloth. How is this fair?
Range.
I know you may discount it heavily, but the reason Rogues wear leather armor and you do not is that Rogues have to be up in the face of the enemy. You do not. You can easily kill someone from a distance (in theory, please don't start arguments about how you can't do this currently because of X or Y. This is concept talk). You have a variety of ways to gain distance or maintain distance from your target. Because you can kill at that distance, you only wear cloth.
That's not going to be changing.

Regarding you comments on cloth and range:
Hunters = Mail, huge damage, pets, traps, better ability to get and maintain range than mages.
nice try though.
Hunters = ranged DPS that costs money, far less ability to burst damage and kill from a distance than Mages (IN CONCEPT). Hunters are built around sustained DPS, not burst, hence why they have the protection.

Q u o t e: Cay,
Regarding you comments on cloth and range:
Hunters = Mail, huge damage, pets, traps, better ability to get and maintain range than mages.
nice try though.
Hunters = ranged DPS that costs money, far less ability to burst damage and kill from a distance than Mages (IN CONCEPT). Hunters are built around sustained DPS, not burst, hence why they have the protection.

Q u o t e: With this many mages complaining how can you come in here and tell us our class is fine? There was a point where our class was fine, but now with all the changes to other classes we are just outshined by other classes. I dont think our dps is a problem just the fact that we cannot control agro AT ALL.
*sigh*
Not once have I said the class is fine here.
I have said you're lower on the priority list than other classes. I have specifically stated that the developers are not 100% happy with the class. However, they've heard your feedback, and they have not adjusted the priority list in response. That's simply the way things are at the moment.

Q u o t e: ????????????
ok... so what about the bugs... and the lack of gear and the discrepincy of scaling melee damage... and all the other points i am missing becase i can't read/think so good/coherent without my meds... really... is it to much to actually have some things adressed in 1 years time... like at least the bugs... i hate blinking these days... even the most slight terrain change makes me blink noplace... or 1 meter... backward... but whatever... and when did i even mention heavier armour? not once did i mention that in my above post... /shrug i merely stated that if you were indeed communicating with the devs, and they were in fact listening to you, there would be some changes/fixes made in the last year... you pulled that armour thing out yer behind...
You may note that I was responding to two people in that response, not just you. Note that the bit that starts with "Numerodos" and beyond is not actually addressed to you.
They know about the bugs. They're trying to fix the bugs. Sometimes bugs take a while to fix.

Q u o t e: Cay's gone from this thread.
And it'a a shame too, because she really left a lot of valid points players have made unanswered.
No, still reading. I just have, y'know, a job to do, and that job does in fact constitute more than reading mage concerns that have already been brought to the developers a dozen times.[ post edited by Caydiem ]
