My actual crit rate seems to be more than my theoretical, maybe i'm calculating wrong. i got 4% crit with gear, 312 mana which is 3.1% crit, aracane instability which is 3%. that should be around 10+%. I also have the 4% for fire blast and scorch. I'm pretty sure my actual crit rate is around 12% though.
out of 394 fireballs, 12.4% crit. out of 273 fire blasts, 15.8%. out of 127 frost novas, 12.6%.
is there a 2% base crit?

Mana doesn't affect your chance to crit with spells, however Intelligence does. To be specific, you'll gain 1% crit per hundred points of Intelligence. This is added to your base spell crit of 5%. After that, you can add up the crit bonuses from all items and talents.
