Subject: iTunes in 1.12 Mac only wanna quantify that?
I don't have a mac where I'm at right now and the test realms are down anyhow. But I play about 60/40 pc/mac. And I listen to a lot of podcasts while i play alts. Can you please explain why PC ppl don't have itunes support in 1.12 and mac ppl do?

Couple of factors. The Mac team cooked up the feature and got it working on OS X iTunes. For Windows, there were some hack/security issues to be hammered out - as well as deciding which music players to support, since there are many more choices - and waiting for all those issues to get resolved would have taken more time. It made more sense to ship the Mac implementation in 1.12 and use it to both satisfy the user requests we had gotten, as well as generate discussion and feedback for future revisions.

The Windows client has its own unique features like dual display support and Logitech G-15 keyboard & LCD support; iTunes support is presently Mac only, but we may be able to bring a similar feature to Windows in a future release.

Whether or not that's true, the issue was one of scheduling and manpower, not of technical difficulty.

I'm saying that using VKEYs would hit all media players that implement this API correctly.

We did look at the VKeys but didn't see how you would get feedback back from the app in question so that the "current track" floater can be displayed in game.

I'm not sure how clearly I can put this, but there are no present plans to offer any scripting integration for this feature.

One reason for that, is that communication between WoW scripts and external apps is forbidden by design, and opening up that kind of pathway would be in conflict with that rule.

The player interface is strictly user-input/keybinding driven and any data coming back from the player is put on the screen without allowing it to pass into the Lua/UI system.

There are some very strong reasons why this is so - the idea is tempting but the risks of violating the design rule are too high.

Q u o t e:
Yeah, just to reiterate what Anduinlothar suggested, and add a few suggestions of my own..

It'd be very nice if the on-screen display could show the Artist, at least. More information might be nice, but artist/track name is a suitable minimum.

The ability to control where on the screen it shows up would be nice too. Though this may be tricky given how it's implemented. Barring that, perhaps a toggle in the interface options whether or not to show the pop-up window would be good.

Having the window pop up when the track changes automagically would be nice.. but as an alternatiave, if you could add a keybind in to bring up the window for 5ish seconds, that would be a good substitute.

These seem doable, I don't know if they'll make 1.12.0 though.
