Subject: NEED BLUE: Is this a hack?!?!

It's a program for the logitech G15 keyboard that allows users to display their current HP/Mana and such on the LCD screen. There has been a lot of debate on whether or not it is allowable. I would like an authorative answer on the subject.

I tried emailing about in-game policies, asking about it, but just received what looks like a standard form response:

"Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department regarding the use of Custom User Interfaces (UI's). In general, User Interface modifications are acceptable for use in World of Warcraft; however, since they are not created by Blizzard, we cannot vouch for the permissibility of a given interface in its current version. Similarly, we cannot guarantee functionality nor provide technical support. Coding to modify the style and look of the UI is allowed, as long as the modifications are done to the sanctioned internal files of the game. However, any UI adjustments that allow the user to gain any sort of an unfair advantage over other players (or any adjustments that are malicious in nature) are unacceptable.

For more information regarding the usage of Custom UIs or Third Party Programs, please review our Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation Policy located at www.worldofwarcraft.com/policy.

Thank you again for your petition. We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft!

Regards,
Muaya

By the looks of it, they didn't really understand the question. But according to the response I received, it is allowed.

It is a hack. While this specific one is benign in function, the same technique can be used to create bots, which are against the terms of service.
