Subject: Interface AddOn Kit (Beta) Sneak Peek!
With 1.10, we've upgraded the Custom Interface Toolkit and added a tutorial on making AddOns for the WoW interface. There are two tutorials, the basic "Hello World" for beginners, and a slightly more advanced, fully functional AddOn and how it's built. Before we released either of these things officially, however, we wanted to give this forum a sneak peak. We'd especially love to get some of your thoughts on the tutorial.

You can download the new Interface AddOn Kit Beta (the tutorial extracts with the data and artwork) at http://www.digitalexperiments.com/InterfaceAddOnKit.exe

Quick Disclaimer: This is still in beta because it's intended for a 1.10 release. The version number in the .toc files is based on that, as is one little feature within our tutorial AddOn. We altered the MoneyFrame by adding an ability to disable the coins as buttons within the default UI, so until 1.10, you'll still be able to click and pull cash out of the AddOn window (which is not as intended).

Looking forward to your feedback,

Rislyn

Everyone, please welcome Rislyn, and be gentle, she's new. :)

To answer the questions so far, we've just changed the Custom Interface Kit's name, added a tutorial that Rislyn wrote, and it now installs to separate directories instead of installing the data and art into the Interface directory.

The .exe is safe, it's the full kit installer for Windows. There is a macintosh version, but it's not available for this beta at the moment.

Again, we'd love your feedback!

   Thanks for the warm welcome.

For those of you unable to download the .exe, I've added a .zip alternative.

Thank you all for both finding mistakes and food for thought for this tutorial. Though I've been absent with commentary, it doesn't mean I haven't been reading.

I'm not sure what the plan is for linking out to the WoW Interface wiki. Though it's a fantastic resource, the link can easily be found if some time is spent in this forum. There's a grey area with official Blizzard endorsements of fan-related mod sites, and I think there are plenty of ways outside of the tutorial for a newbie to find their way there.

In regards to the intent of the tutorial, the basic purpose is to expose the potential mod dev to key concepts and nudge them gently in a direction to find out more. There's a thin line between basic exposure and overwhelming, so we're working hard on trying to find that right balance.

On the otherhand, Iriel, your comments were incredibly helpful. Thank you for fine-toothed combing through the code and tutorial. Your suggestions and those of everyone else have improved the tutorial. Other suggestions in this thread were also followed through on (*cough* *eyes her new avatar*).

Again, thanks for all of your help, and keep the comments coming - I've still got some time before I lock this up. :)
