Subject: Comments on "Petition for IsItemValid()"
I'm not replying in the petition for IsItemValid, because I think IsItemValid makes it easier for data miners, and I would rather prefer just getting rid of disconnects altogether.

I'd like to explore a different option: require each item link to provide both the item id and an item password. The item password can be a randomly-initialized number that is the same password for that item on all servers.

It you try to use an item link with an invalid item password, you get disconnected. Once you see an item in game, you will be able to record its password (in lootlink or itemmatrix or whatever) and access that item from then on.

Assuming the password length is sufficiently long, it should then take data miners sufficiently long just to figure out one item.

The basic rule is, if you've seen it since you've logged in, you're okay. If you haven't, it's not safe to use SetItem on a tooltip for it, or send it as a link to someone else.

If it doesn't fall into that category, then it's very likely to be safe if it's a common item, but not guaranteed.
