I've taken over development and maintenance of Servitude, a Warlock addon to help warlocks manage their pet spells.
Unfortunately, there is no current way to test the distance to a target to determine if a pet action is in range, prior to executing a CastPetAction..
The end result is that often the user will experience Out of Range, or Invalid Target messages.
Could you take this request to the developers? You've been on a posting frenzy recently, so here's hoping :)
Basically I want the ability to determine whether my pets actions are currently in range of a supplied target. Obviously the distance would have to be measured from the pet rather than the player.
Something along the lines of:
IsPetActionInRange(index, target)

It's been tentatively approved, but there's a lot more coding and potential design work involved in it, and I'm not sure when I'll have time to implement it. Don't worry, I have this thread bookmarked, so I'll let you know when there's a status update.

Don't worry, it's still on my list. I'm working with the designers to get a do$&!ent which is much more clear on what is acceptable and isn't in terms of UI automation. First of course we have to be able to enforce it...
