That particular monster was not meant to be tameable. The ones already tamed will not be removed, but they will not be able to be fed. That said, the developers are considering adding serpents as another tameable family at some point.
I just logged on to find my Sandfury Guardian is no longer stable.

Any chance I can get the 10 levels worth of time back that I spent taming and leveling him up?

I spoke with the class developers about this. They were unaware that this would happen to the stabled pets, and they do apologize for the unintentional consequence of this change. If at some point in the future this sort of change needs to happen again, they will be using a different method to minimize the debilitating effect on the Hunters.
