Whats the point of playing on a PvP server when a good portion of people don't even PvP? PvP servers shouldn't even have raid content available on them. Who cares about PvE on a PvP server? If you guys really want to do PvE then go join a PvE server. Don't just join our PvP servers just so you can say your not a carebear. On some PvP servers there arn't any PvP guilds at all. PvP servers should be ALL about PvP and building rivalries with the opposition, not who can be the first to down X boss.

Just because people choose a PvP realm doesn't mean they don't want to take part in upper end content. Being on a PvP realm does give you that 'looking over your shoulder' sort of feeling when you are in contested zones. I personally love that feeling. The only time my guard is somewhat lower than normal is when I'm in a lower level contested area on a level 60 and even then, I'm on the lookout for enemies that are out looking for some action still.
Different people have different ideas of what they want to accomplish and by leaving as many options available as possible to players, we give them that opportunity to experience it all.
Also as an aside, creating vastly different rulesets would essentually create two games for us to maintain. As we would add new content we would be faced with more and more 'interesting' (to put it nicely) complications that would not have happened with keeping a certain level of consistency.

Q u o t e: You are wrong at everything. You do not understand the mind set of a real pvper, and neither does your whole company. To us PvE is necessary evil. It cannot be enjoyed, it is something that is endured. However this garbage game keeps throwing more hurdles in our way. Only reason PvPers play this game is because, sadly there is nothing better out there. Only mmorpgs that could even be classified as PvP friendly do not exist anymore (not in their original capacities). We look forward to the future with hope, but the horizon looks bleak. Outnumbered by the carebears, we are the forgotten victims of capitalism. The never ending need for more money and trying to appeal to a larger audiance. We suffer and we hurt and we ache everyday. You cannot call this a game anymore, games are fun to play.
I do understand a 'real' pvper mindset since I am one and have been taking part of PvP for many many years.
You are mistaking your mindset as being 'everyone's mindset or the ONLY PvP mindset. You are also going under the assumption that my statement says that the PvE is preferred on a PvP realm to the PvP. I'm not saying that. People chose their PvP realm for a reason and that reason is that they want to have the ability to engage in more PvP than they would have access to on a PvE server. However, as others have pointed out, if people wanted JUST PvP they would most likely be engaged in an FPS of some sort. (Something of which I do engage in from time to time when the mood strikes.) However, in an MMO, PvP is not the only focus. It is a part of the process in creating and advancing a character. Whether your preference is for PvE or not isn't the subject in this case. It is about why PvE exists at all on a PvP server and I'm saying that without it, we limit people's gameplay choices and we would essentually be supporting and developing two very different games wrapped up to look like one.
We do not intend to create two seperate games and try to support them both under just one title. It creates development issues and complications that are unnecessary. In the meantime we will continue to work to advance ALL aspects of the game and make it as avaialable to players as we possibly can.
World of Warcraft is about variety and options. It is a part of our strength.

Q u o t e: Neth, by some random chance did you play on the LS shard in UO? Your writing style and some of the stuff you mention reminds me of someone I knew.
No, sorry. I get that a lot however. ;)

Q u o t e: Gotta love the trademark carebear CM attitude of dissociating PvP and "upper-end content." Every time a CM has posted about PvP it has been some lame remark like that. Anyone remember Tyren stating that the PvP ladder was in no way competitive (as in, whatever others do doesn't interfere with your progression) and that it was just another way to acquire gear?
I'm going to disagree with you that it is a 'carebear' attitude. It's simply a matter of being able to put aside personal wants/desires and think about the larger picture. Not everyone is going to want the same experiences that I do.
When you take into account all the people that are subscribers to World of Warcraft and factor in how many of them are new to the genre, how many don't like PvP at all and also factor in what is best for the overall health of the game and it's continuing development, it comes down to consistency that people can depend on. By keeping a certain level of expectation on the various realm types players can plan on how they want to best spend their playtime.
*Edit- Also, minor changes can often add extra difficulties in content additions. It may not be noticeable at first but at some point larger issues can result from those changes.[ post edited by Nethaera ]
