This is making me very unhappy. As a miner I'm already seeing so many people farming thorium for arcanite that trying to mine has become pretty much pointless. There are so many people vying for the nodes that I'm lucky to find a few nodes an hour. And as a blacksmith I *need* those mats. But I've been forced to spend my mining time grinding mobs instead, and then buying what I need on the AH.
This is bad enough, but with jewels for jewelcrafting coming mainly from ore it's already getting much worse. The only way to get metal ore will be to camp nodes in hopes you beat the herds of people trying to get jewels. Buying bars on the AH has gotten much more expensive since people are hoarding ore.
With so many professions needing arcanite *and* so many professions soon to need jewels, you are putting too much pressure on the ore nodes. And people like me who need thorium are being screwed. I can't mine it myself because there are too many people farming arcanite for cash, and I can't buy it on the auction house since people are hoarding ore.
Is this problem even on the radar? Why is a new profession that will get a flood of people using one of the resources that is already very rare?

Minglet, I understand what you are saying and we could probably discuss this at great length and try to guess at what effect this is going to have once people are able to start trying it out, but until we actually are in the beta and get a sampling of how the resources are going to pan out, we can't say there IS a problem with the current model. We can theorize that there might be all we want but it's just theory until the testing.
At that point the developers can decide if the testing is a true example of what will happen or they can decide that it may not be so bad after all. Changes can happen after the expansion even goes live if need be but I think we're going to have to depend on player feedback and developer hard knowledge of what is really in the system in order to know if that's necessary.

Q u o t e: Nethaera--I see what you're saying, but the problem is this: Minglet was saying that the lack of ore is ALREADY a problem. By putting more pressure on those veins, it's fairly apparent that the already existing problem will only get worse.
I understand your position and we've passed along that players feel there is a shortage. There is another side of things to consider as well and that is in preserving the value of resources so that there isn't a glut of them on the market. Some things are meant to be more rare and harder to obtain. Of course we don't want to cause people massive amounts of pain in doing it but as was said, some people will buy it from the AH rather than mine it themselves.
I still stand by the idea that testing how this will work in beta is the best possible way to convey that there may be an issue to the developers. They can adjust things as necessary or as they feel are necessary. But, I also want to caution you that they may feel that it isn't necessary at all and things are as they are intended to be.
I only say that because I want to make sure there isn't an inflated level of expectation but I also don't want to crush anyone's hope that adjustments could possibly be made.
