I make this query as because of late I see a lot of negative feedback from your many suggested upcoming changes to the game. These changes it seems, ignore the beliefs of a large portion of the gaming base.
WoW (and other mmorpgs) are a highly community focused game, more so than any other form of computer game we have ever seen. People feel a sense of ownership and pride over the game, again more so than any other.
Considering much of the negative feedback you have received in recent times, doesn't it seem somewhat naive not to conduct polls?
Politcians for example (who are by the way working for a community) test the waters about any potential change through extensive polling in their community. How is a game like WoW any different?
No longer are you producing a game for each individual to enjoy, instead this is a community game for many individuals to enjoy together. With that in mind it seems terribly arrogrant to continue with a dictatorial approach (ie the traditional developer/designer) determining how the game will evolve. Would it not be more proactive and inclusive to test the water of new ideas through polls? Doesn't the current mass of negative feedback tell you anything?

I don't really think polls are necessary, we can gauge reactions to certain announcements and factor that in to various other responses in relation to the announcement itself. The only real outcome I could see from having a poll would be an expectation that the game would be changed dependant on how the poll concluded, and that's just not how it would work.
However, we do occasionally send out surveys to select World of Warcraft players to get their thoughts and opinions on various aspects of the game or even upcoming features, and of course we read the forums, fansites, guild sites, etc.[ post edited by Drysc ]
