I've been looking over the new blood knight lore and looking back on the history of the Highborne. From what I've determinde is that the entire "stealing" of the light seems completely unnecessary...why would they steal something they already had? mabey they just like to rough up naruu.
Aren't the highborne already so familiar with the light that they followed for thousands of years that the idea of a high elven paladin would have been so farfetched?
It was the Highborne who showed Arcane AND the path of the light to humans and dwarves. If it were possible for human and dwarf paladins to seemingly come out of nowhere just through the "idea" of the light that started a priesthood, how come there has been not ONE reference or even a whisper about a highborne paladin in a thousand year history of the highborne?
Arthas referred to the highborne as "frial" elves, but somehow these new blood elves are not as frial and can be a warrior class? because they are the blood elves they are stronger? Oh wait they are still the same elves but with a new title.
I still have more thinking to do on this. and with the whole dranie story botch, I guess it is much harder to cope with new lore. It all just seems poorly contrived excuses the more I look at it. I hate to see it that way though. Since the highborne have been my favorite race of all others.
I didn't like the idea of trolls being night elf progenitors in the begining but now I see it as a way to not rip tolkien lore off with the whole "first race to awaken" idea.
ok I think I'm done.

First off, the lore that defines this game is not simply one, long novel. It does not track a single path, but moves in many directions at once. Having lore that players interact with in a broad world, it is something that can not be developed with the same methods as a traditional, linear story or novel.
With that said, conventionally, the light is something that had to be 'accepted' by a paladin. The method by which the Blood Knights acquire power is one that demonstrates their attitude towards power. Power is something to be taken, something which can corrupt. Blood Knights clearly illustrate defining characteristics of Blood Elves. They are desperate for power and are unconcerned with the moral questions that come with acquiring this power.
Frankly, it paints them in a more disturbing light than the Forsaken, who don't really have the addiction-driven amorality of the Blood Elves.
The path of least resistance tempts all ramblers.
