Subject: The Truth.Death of Hero Classes.
Well First post gone and I just wanted to keep info out there a bit longer so people know what actually happened today and it isnt swept under the rug as a event that never happened

Original by the CM before being deleted promptly after 7 pages of torrential negative feedback.

Q u o t e:

At current there are no plans to implement Hero classes or siege weapons. I know how people were hoping for and expecting these things to be added in but focus and ideas have changed.

The thing to understand about those ideas is they were stated relatively early on when there were a lot of other concepts being juggled. It just so happens that these couple of concepts don't fit in with the current plans for World of Warcraft.

Believe me when I say I was hoping for some nice ballistae myself.

There are definite plans but they involve things I can't discuss as of yet. I am looking forward to when we can. :)

Thank you Varth. ;) Apparently I've seen it as 'ballistas' for so long that it stuck in my mind as the correct version.

You may be one of my editors anytime.

It's important that we work to balance expectations where we can. It's also important to note that they are not planned at this time. The key there being 'at this time'.

No one has any intention of dangling carrots on a stick or anything else in this regard but with any MMO things can and do change. The vision can change based on other new visions of what can be.

I personally believe that there are some great new things worth waiting for in the coming months but it's up to you if you want to see those things or not.

The team is aware that people are still interested in Hero Classes so the idea itself will never truly die.

It's been talked about in the past and made known but I realize that sometimes people miss these sorts of things. There is a lot more to World of Warcraft and its future than just Hero Classes but I can also appreciate the disappointment that people feel about that.

Secondary post which was then deleted about 30 min after that.

Q u o t e:

ero classes have not been canceled. My newness has bitten me on the rearend. After talking to Ordinn I was informed that there is no new news on this and things are still on the table.

I apologize for the misunderstanding and you may commence with the floggings.

Only because it was better to clear things up in a thread that wasn't off-kilter as of yet due to my own mistake. The only damage control that is being done is me clearing up something I didn't ask about first for clarification. There are a lot of things I'm still learning and a lot of things I'm still finding out as I go. With so many projects being worked on it's not easy keeping up with things.

Dolar, I will be more than happy to ask about it and get more accurate information. There is no telling however when I can say more (or anyone) given that there are so many projects being worked on both for the upcoming patches and for the expansion.

Like I said, this is my own mistake that I am owning up to. I had mixed information and didn't clarify first. That is my own fault alone. I am always more than willing to own up to when I make them. I am after all, human and not a robot.

Now if you read both posts what is originally said and what was claimed to have happened is two wildly different aspects of a conversation. The way this has all been handled is ludicrous and we should be told if something that was if not promised then implied would be an eventual game feature and something that alot of us were waiting on for a long long time.

We are interested in and discussing alternate character progression. That is what is on the table.

'Hero Classes' is a label which has carried weight with players, but essentially has little real meaning. What exactly is a 'Hero Class'? No one can say, because no one knows, but they'll surely get their own ideas about it(ZOMG, Blademaster!). If we were to implement some sort of progression that we didn't call 'Hero Classes' it would upset players by name alone.

A basic notion sketched out years back may or may not be viable in the current model of the game. To treat such a notion as a promise of certain functions for the game is simply going to cause people to say, "But, that's not what I wanted when I thought of Hero Classes."

So much thought and expectation has gone into the phrase 'Hero Class' that anything implemented can't really hope to meet expectations. This is something we would like to avoid.

So, while we are keeping basic intent of the original comments made a couple years back, too much has changed to rely on a single term used to describe current design approach.

In summary, the question of "Are Hero Classes going to be implemeted or not?" is simply the wrong question to ask. Hence the confusion seen earlier today. The questions asked were yes/no, when neither yes or no is the right response.

Q u o t e:
tier 4 lvl 120 gear does not equal "something along the lines of hero classes."

Raid or Quit?

Q u o t e:
Ok, a better question is: Will their be a progression system added that is not directly related to gear? Will players be able to use some system beyond the normal xp system to gain abilities rather than just gaining more stats by continued gear progression? Because the 100% gear based progression is getting stale.

Those are better questions. Unfortunately, I do not have information to answer them adequately.
