Subject: CMs: Do you raid?
Simple question. Do any of you guys raid regularly or casually? If so, have you been in Naxx, fought C'Thun, downed Nefarion and Ragnaros?

I don't think this question has been asked before :D

Q u o t e:
They don't have to, they just use GM tools to get all their gears or killing mobs.

Yes we raid. No we don't use GM powers. Everyone levels and gears up the same as any other player. We do our best to try to keep our experiences the same as any other player so we can better understand player feedback as well as give our own.

Yes we play to have fun too. That's a part of the experience. If something just doesn't feel fun we are able to give feedback on that too.

Also, to answer the idea that we know all the strategies... I wish! We read what other players are doing the same as anyone else and go through our own difficulties in learning to overcome the various bosses and dungeons. Despite all rumors we do not have "I Win" buttons either.

Yes we have people that raid Horde and Alliance both.

I've raided Molten Core, Blackwing Lair and Zul'Gurub extensively. Primarily with my Alliance Priest, however, I do have limited experience raiding in Molten Core and Zul'Gurub with my Shaman and Mage. I've not spent much time in Ahn'Qiraj (20 or 40), nor have I had a chance to check out Naxxramas (since it's launch). Lately, my time has been devoted to leveling up new characters, and right now I'm focused on my Druid.

I'm basically trying to level as many characters to 60 as possible before expansion. This way I have more options to choose from concerning who to level up to 70, which will primarily be based upon which new spells and abilities I personally like the most.

I'd like to do Naxxramas soon though, but I simply haven't found the time since patch.

Q u o t e:
Next question: do you AFK half the raid?

Please bear in mind your statement about "[keeping] our experiences the same as any other player . . . " when you answer.

I can just hear the cries of "AFKyonix, get outta the bathroom!" on vent.

Sometimes I've had to keep people waiting between pulls to take care of other distractions.

At risk of people trying to pigeonhole me; yes, I've raided as Horde. No I haven't gotten to do Naxxramas yet either. I've been busy trying to get used to my new schedule between work and home. ;) I've raided (farm status) Molten Core, Zul Gurub, Onyxia and have been in BWL to nearly the end as well as have been in AQ20. I also PvP in BGs as well as in the world.

I've been playing for a long while and some periods of time have had to be more casual in nature and other periods of time have been more hardcore. It's both depended on time and what I wanted to be doing.

I also have multiple characters on both sides that I have been working up. I really am not lying when I say I've played every class and every race at one point or another. Some I've just played much more than others. Some I've begun playing again to reaquaint myself with them.

Question is, was the farm status dungeons you list on horde or alliance?

Farm Status= Horde in this case.

so you guys do play the game, but are totally oblivious to it.

I guess being in Fires of Heaven does have it's perks.

I hate to destroy your delusions however, I have never been a member of Fires of Heaven. I hope that information doesn't crush you to know. :(

Q u o t e:
So do you guys have any employees in a position to influence the direction of design or interact with subscribers who don't do any raiding? If not, how do you expect to keep in touch with the majority of your subscriber base, which by Tigole's best guess probably don't raid for loot? Do you have any employees who are stuck at the level cap struggling to find small party adventures that aren't staler than homemade croutons?

Everyone has had some experience with the many of the things you have brought up in some way from getting a good group, to PUGS, to having a raid peter out due to lack of attendance, to having to farm for items either to make cash or restock on potions or whatever else. I don't think anyone here is living an insular WoW life from the general populace. The only thing that makes us a bit different than you is we know more of the inner workings on a more intimate level as far as the 'hows' and 'whys' of things.

No amount of knowledge though can take the place of experience and that's why so many of us are constantly leveling new characters, reading information the fans put together and doing it all the old fashioned way without the use of GM tools or even mods. We try to get a good solid core experience of what a 'normal' player goes through so we understand when someone likes something or doesn't like something.

Q u o t e:
i thought people are constantly rerolling new characters because they hate raiding..

or is that what you meant to say but couldnt because that is the reality.

I actually am not a big leveler. I get stuck on a character I like and play it like crazy. It's fun being 60 and pushing the limits to see what you can get away with killing solo vs what you need to run away very very very fast from. Then there is always the PvP fun where I go out to get myself in trouble with overwhelming odds. Some call that suicidal but I think it's fun to see what damage I can do before I'm taken down. ;)

However, I also like to try out classes I hadn't played for a bit or only touched on for a short bit so that I stay in touch with what others are talking about. It keeps you sharp on what other players are capable of and how things work both for PvE and for PvP. Understanding the limitations and strengths of another class is important in many ways.

Yes, we are encouraged to play so that we are constantly in touch with the very game we support.

Kraylessa, no rubbing it in. ;/ I need to get up into Nax. It looks like fun.

Q u o t e:
Right, but do any of you have any characters that have spent more than a month or two at the level cap without raiding with them? The specific sympathy I'm trying to guage is the feeling that one of your characters is finished advancing because further advancement is reserved for players who enjoy one specific type of encounter. Whil I understand it's unlikely that there's any official mandate to keep a small party character, I'm wondering if any of you has continued to play a character at the level cap for a long period of time without taking it on any raid encounters and how you feel about the content available to those characters.

Yes Kagan. I have a level 60 that I made at release that I have both raided with and not raided with, PvPd in BGs with and not PvPd in BGs with. In part it depended on my mood and in part it depended on guild activity. Holidays, people taking breaks and what have you can affect all that pretty easily. Not to mention if you have a large guild vs a small guild or if you pair up with another guild and all the interesting problems that can come with that and more. I am positive there are others here that don't raid and do other things instead also.

I think there are things to do at the end game but it comes down to what you want out of it. I can completely understand people not wanting to raid or having difficulties getting a raid put together. I can also completely understand people not wanting to raid at all and wanting other things to do that don't require it. I personally enjoy raids more for the companionship of others than I do for the gear. I also enjoy PvP more than raiding. That's my personal preference but I also appreciate the epic nature that raids afford as well.

I think the main problem people have is they rush to get to the end game and then wonder why they aren't having any fun anymore. By rushing they have missed a lot of the nuances of the game itself, the storylines, the struggle between the Horde and the Alliance, the interesting easter eggs and pop culture that is strewn around through World of Warcraft and they've missed a lot of the basic fun of discovery. I think the main thing is that people need to enjoy the journey and forget about the destination. I am personally looking forward to the journey that is being planned for the expansion as well.
