Kelthuzad: I the evil lich Kelthuzad shall spawn giant necropolises over important areas of the world! And by important, I mean out of the way!
*Poof*
Kelthuzad: These undead will very slowly take over the world by milling about aimlessly.
Ghostly Ghost: Man, this job is complicated.
Kel'Thuzad: Perhaps by doing this, they can bore the heroes of the world to death. With this goal in mind, my soldiers besieging the capital cities of my strongest foes will be comprised of my absolute weakest minions raised by my most unskilled necromancers. The undead will also, conveniently, not block the road. They will stand to the side to let travellers pass by easily.
Argent Dawn: Oh noes! We must stop him!
*Many heroes dead from boredom*
Kelthuzad: Now that I have everyone lulled into a sense of boredom and apathy, I will send in my absolute most mediocre units, the Flameshockers and the Abominations! However, because I never actually prepared for this invasion, and just thought it up yesterday, I only have enough undead to send them in ONE AT A TIME.
Thrall: There is only one thing we can do to stop them... WE MUST THROW A FIRE FESTIVAL!
*All of Azeroth dances around the ribbon pole*
Kelthuzad: Noo!! My flawless plans proved unsuccessful! However, if I retreat, that would fool my enemies into thinking I am smart, I must stay in my Necropolis and sit around waiting for a group of heroes to come and slay me!

I really thought the undead invasions would be actual parties of undeads (maybe controlled by GMs) that come into cities and actually have a chance of slaying our leaders, which would in turn give us like a huge debuff for a day or two, until said leaders respawn.
Like a deathknight, a lich, a crypt lord, with seveal elite undead guards, throw in some necromancers that come into a city and wtfpwn everyone. Like Warcraft 3.
Unfortunately, unlike the end of beta event which was much easier to do (relatively speaking), there are just too many realms now to be able to work live events like that. The event team is constantly working on new ideas of course and watches for constructive feedback they can use to better these types of experiences for the community.
