Subject: Just when I thought I had it...C'mon Blizz!
I'm a huge BG'er, or at least I try to be. My latency on most of the servers I played on in the past was usually around 200-300ms, which isn't necessarily bad by any means, but to be truly effective in BG's it should be much lower. I've even tried making characters on EST realms (I live on the east coast) but still get a latency of around 150-200ms. Again, not bad, but not good for BG'ing.

So then I made a character on Andorhal. And behold: my latency was only 18ms! (Actually it starts that way but then usually fluctuates up and down, but I'll leave that aside for now -- although if you have any input on this fact alone, please share).

Finally, I had found a realm where I thought I would be able to click on the WSG flag and have it returned before anyone else.

Finally, I would no longer get any "You must be facing your target" messages when they appear on my screen right in front of me.

Finally, I wouldn't have to "time" pressing certain spells (Sacrifice, etc.) so that they could go off before I died.

Finally, I could effectively BG!

But no.

I spent the past few days leveling my warlock to 19 and entered Warsong Gulch. And to my dismay, my latency rose to around 200ms. Same as always. I figured it was just a fluke and that it would return back to 20-40, which it did...after I left the battleground. I noticed that whenever I entered a Battleground or instance, my latency would rise to 100-200, and frankly the only place I really care about having low latency is in Battlegrounds. I talked about it with a friend and he said that instances and Battlegrounds are on different servers, and that the potential problem could be that these servers were located much farther away from me than the actual Andorhal server, and thus the higher latency.

So basically I'm left with three options. I try to find another server where my latency is low everywhere I go (assuming my friend's theory was correct). I try to figure out the real problem and fix it. Or I just give up and leave the game altogether. As silly as it sounds, I really can't enjoy the game when I'm not as quick as other players, and for some of the reasons I stated above.

I guess what I'm wondering is, if what my friend said is true, then why would you place these servers so far from the main server to create such a large increase in latency?

This is probably the point where I say, /discuss.

The instance servers you would be on would be in the same location as the realm itself, but aside from that, have you tried contacting our technical support department?

I myself have experienced performance and even connection degredation due to the use of Interface addons.

Q u o t e:
i wonder what kinda addons drysc uses!

I think I would be endorsing them if I mentioned them by name, but I like to try different things and see what can really enhance the interface or tailor it more to my liking. I don't get too crazy with it. I have witnessed the extremely odd problems they can cause first hand though.
