I can't wait for the character transfers, and i'm willing to pay to transfer, but I realized something when the lastest PTR opened. Copying a character from one realm only takes a matter of seconds. This is for an exact duplicate, from quests, to gear, and even to the bank, so why the fee? If it only takes mere moments to bring a regular realmed character to a PTR, then what's the difference in transferring it to another realm? I understand that you need to monitor server populations, and delete the old character, but that also takes moments to do. It seems like it's just a 'cut/paste' deal, and doesn't seem like something that would take much time at all. Now I may be a slight bit in the dark on how everything works, so i'd like some feed-back on how it all works, but just from what i've seen in the PTR character copy, it shouldn't be too hard to move a character to another realm.
(even after all that rant) i'd also like to know how much the -estimated- fee is going to be to transfer a character, and if there's a deal for transferring more than one at a time.
Thanks!

The primary purpose of the fee is to reduce the number of players who elect to perform character transfers. This service which we've been working hard to establish for quite some time is intended to enhance the World of Warcraft experience for our community, but it's important that it's not abused. Furthermore, character transfers will be subject to certain restrictions, which will be detailed in the near future.
We've not yet determined the cost associated with the character transfer service.

Q u o t e: So instead of putting a time limit or something on it (one character moved per month or something) they opted to go with the plan that leeches even more money from their players.
Lets face it. Blizzard doesn't give a crap about what their players want, they are only adding this to make more money off you.
Feel better now?

Guys, it's best not to argue with someone intentionally avoiding reason. Truth stands on its own two feet, whether or not one chooses to accept it. World of Warcraft was designed to enrich the lives of those that enjoy gaming, and this is the forum dedicated to its enjoyment.
Lets just have fun, it is after all why we're here. ;)

Q u o t e: Eyonix,
Though the original poster to express their concerns over the fee (as opposed to the actual OP), voiced their concerns extremely poorly, I don't believe you can honestly say that the fee attached to the service isn't about making money.
There are any number of ways to prevent abuse of the service that have nothing to do with charging money, just a few examples being:
* Time limits (eg/ 1 toon per month)
* Server restrictions (which have already been discussed as part of the service)
* Cooldowns (move any number of characters, but with a limit to how often they can be moved)
In particular, the fee, as anything other than a chance to make money, is even less believable when it comes to account splitting - where those couples who play WoW (I am not in such a situation myself) which to move toons into seperate accounts to allow for simultaneous play. Given the fact that such account-splitting then generates a second monthly subscription for Blizzard, the fee makes even less sense in such circumstances.
I hope you'll note that, I have been quite reasonable in the arguments I'm putting forward here.
I don't even really begrudge Blizzards fees in this respect anyway - you are after all, a profit-driven company, like any other private enterprise, and it is only reasonable to expect Blizzard to grab each and every opportunity to make money when it can.
I just wish that Blizzards representatives would be more frank and honest with the motivations behind the fee, and not rely on the reasoning that a fee is the only method to discourage abuse of a service, especially given the obvious fact that the fee will be small in relation to what some of these accounts will sell for on E-Bay.
I don't believe I've ever asked specifically for a Blue response, but I would sure be interested to see one to this post.
There isn't much I can do to prove our intentions in a matter, nor can I even hope to prove my own intentions when responding to a question, or addressing a concern. In all the time I've been working with this community, I've been honest and direct. I have no control over what anyone chooses to believe. I've been accused of conspiracy, spreading lies, hiding the truth, along with being a tool or mouth piece more times than I can even fathom.
As I stated, the primary purpose of the fee is to reduce the number of players who elect to perform character transfers. Primary being the keyword here. The reason provided is in-fact the core motivating factor for the associated fee, believe it or not.

Q u o t e: Eyonix,
With all the abusive posting that goes on in these forums, much of which is directed at Blue, and most of which, were I in your position, I'd wield the forum-ban-stick for, I can understand how you may have taken my post more harshly than I have intended it.
That said, a fee-based restriction only, does nothing to prevent the likes of IGE offering their services, since the fee would simply be wrapped into the account price.
Worst still, by allowing these transfers ad infinitum, it only makes the gold collection activities of such unsavoury enterprises easier, since the gold can be farmed without regard to the server it is intended for (imagine this as a method of importing large amounts of gold into a new server).
As I said, I don't really mind the fee. I don't expect any other private company I deal with to offer their services without cost, so I have no reason to expect it of Blizzard.
The fact remains though, that a fee-only-restriction will offer no real disincentive to the very people and orginisations who are most likely to abuse the system in the first place, wheras other, non-fee based restrictions, easily would, and with no customer expense attached.
PS: Thanks for the response - only my 2nd ever I think....
I do appreciate your feedback, Twilom. I believe in-part that this topic is simply a difficult one to have at this point in time. It deals with a service that we're launching in the near future (summer) that many players are excited to take advantage of. Details, including specific information which would actually address a few of the points you've made, are not available just yet. Putting me at the disadvantage of being able to only reveal enough for those with concerns, to feel more concerned.
All that I can ask anyone to do at this point is wait until the full details of service are available. With all the facts on the table, we can discuss it in greater detail. It won't be long now.[ post edited by Eyonix ]

Q u o t e: A player? Who cares about a single player. When it's 90% of your players, that kind of makes sense.
You need sharpening. To make it crystal clear, look at my avatar. Good day.
Your inability to separate fact from personal perception has governed most every response you've made tonight. You're upset and looking for confrontation. When you originally posted in this thread, it was obvious that you didn't even have a specific interest in the paid character transfers.
You involved yourself because you were looking to unleash your anguish.
With that being said, I'm going to politely insist that you refrain from posting for a little while. I think you need some "you" time. After you've taken a small break, I highly suggest that you consider reading your post history. I think you have much to learn from your own replies.
Please abide by my request.[ post edited by Eyonix ]
