Subject: Tip your Enchanter
Just a reminder to tip your enchanter, costs alot of gold to get to 300 make a few rods and get certain enchants.

This is what happens generally when I don't get tipped, I don't get angry, I just go fishing in the middle of nowhere, all fine and dandy but guess what, I'm not in a major city to help with your enchanting needs.

TIP THE ENCHANTER or the sign will read "Gone Fishing"

A tip is a gratuity offered void of claim or obligation. Creating an expectation that you deserve to be rewarded for a service you're providing in a fictional game universe only sets yourself up for disappointment. Even in the "real world", the proper circumstances that dictate whether a tip should be provided is often subjective, especially when you consider how each culture factoring into the equation interprets this custom.

If you have a specific monetary value in mind when providing an enchant to another individual, I'd suggest you name it. Faulting others for the way they interpret non-standardized customs in an imaginary world forces failure, because it's your perception that they are being made to battle.

Aww, not first...

I agree with you, but it's still nice when someone tips me for help or service that I provided for free (without asking for or expecting a tip).

Absolutely, it's nice. In part because it's not obligatory, therefore making the gesture truly special. Too often I see expectation on matters such as these being built, usually subconsciously. There are people of all ages from various regions of the world connecting to World of Warcraft sharing in a common interest. However, sharing in a common interest is not indicative of sharing in a common point of view, or philosophy.

It's up to each of us to actively avoid making assumptions about one and other, but probably most important (in my opinion), is being delicate when expressing our viewpoints on subjective matters.

Express > Impose

To give you an example of cultural differences with respect to tipping:

Tipping is very customary in the USA. There is a socially acceptable amount to tip added on to the final bill. It is an extra. Hell, you guys don't even include taxes in the ticket price of goods on a shelf!

I come from Australia, where pretty much no one tips. All fees, charges, taxes, gratuities, etc are built into the final ticket price. The price advertised on the shelf (so to speak) is the price you pay.

So back to WoW. If I need an enchant done, come right out and name your price. If you are providing the mats, factor in a little extra for yourself and I will be happy to pay. If I am providing the mats, come out and say how much you will charge for the service and once again I will be happy to pay. But generally if I have the mats and ask you for an enchant, and you just say 'sure' and do it, don't expect anything other than a thank-you. Always name your price :-)

Q u o t e:
When do you question to tip or not? Someone is doing work for you that you know is deserving of something extra. A cabby, a mover, anyone that carries anything for you for that matter. A deliver person. What possible person out there do you question "Hey am I supposed to tip this guy?" I mean cmon, you gonna tell me that most ppl don't know when they should tip? It's just ppl being cheap is all it is, enchanters are providing a service, if you don't think that derserves make Believe money, than you proablly get alot of spit in your food IRL.

As for the culture determing the actions of the ppl. You may belive that because it's a fictional environment and you can make the rules, that you have created an entirely new culture. That is simply not the case. WOW is still by and large an American based culture. People's action's immitate their real life personalities and culture. Most ppl in American culture know when they should tip someone. The ppl that do not tip, or tip the waiter a buck, simply do not care. To say that not tipping ppl is acceptable is one of the worst responses I've ever seen a blue make. Of course ppl expect to get tipped, enchanting is called a Profession for a reason. If you are doing a job, you expect to get paid. I mean should i just walk down to Pizza Hut and say hey heres the dough, cheese, and sauage, can you throw that in the oven for me for free. We tip ppl because it is the right thing to do, because it should make you feal better about yourself, if it does not than I feal sorry for you. Tip or don't tip, it's your descion, but it speaks for your character in game, and your character IRL.

I'm speechless, really.
