Ok so I haven't been on the test server so all I hear is vague descriptions of the happenings on the test server in guild chat.
So there's some kinda Undead invasion.
Is it possible that this won't end (unlike the War Effort) because it seems like such a cool event and it would make sense for it to be ongoing.

It will last as long as it takes for you to drive back the scourge invasion. Literally though, I believe there will be some maximum length it will last. It will be similar to the Ahn'Qiraj event in that way; so even if no one participates it won't last forever.

Tch, you didn't think the Scourge would be discouraged by your destruction of a few simple crystals, did you?
Yes, they return. They're persistent. However, if you speak with the Argent Dawn in the cities, they're keeping a close eye on the progress of the invasion and will inform you what has been done thus far.
If you choose to ignore the Invasion or you simply don't have enough participation on your realm, it will still end, in time...
...but then you won't get the benefits of winning. ;)
Also, I wouldn't worry overmuch about framerate and/or lag. I know many of you with these concerns have the Ahn'Qiraj War in mind, but this is spread out over the entire world and over a much longer period of time.
