Subject: Loot Dispute! -blue pelase help :)
Blue please help resolve this issue!

There is a dispute amoung some friends reguarding how loot drops are decided. I am hoping to resolve this issue quickly to put some peoples mind at ease.

Can you please shed any light to this matter please? Here are some of the things.

Previous experience with coding, and what I view as common sense, would tell me that the loot from all mobs is weighted based on rarity. The items that drop are purely a "roll of the dice" so to speak. Certain items have a larger range on the number scale to drop then others. That would be what makes certain items more common, while others are extremely rare.

There is a disagreement, and for some, a complete misunderstnading on how loot decidedly drops.

-A few people believe that if a certain raid leader is the master looter then certain items will never drop.

-Others believe that the first person to zone into an instance changes the odds of what items will drops.

-Another idea, is that certain loots are on a time table. Meaning that one month a certain item has a better chance to drop then another month.

I realize that you probably can not delve the exact code that the loot system uses, however, any factual foresite would be much appreciated.

...btw this post is mainly for pure fact to resolve our issue. That means I am not looking for speculation or opinion. Sorry, we have been mulling over this for quite some time.

Each mob has a pre-determined loot table, and is not affected by any outside influences (such as those you listed). The one exception would be for items that are class specific being able to drop for a faction that does not harbor that class.

Anything that is random is going to exhibit some type of pattern at some point, and these patterns can cause a superstition to arise when no concrete evidence can be shown disproving their superstition is false. In fact, I can almost guarantee someone reading this will refuse to believe that the loot drops are not affected by outside influences simply because of a pattern they witnessed.

Q u o t e:
I believe you, in a baron run, while me and hunter trying to get our pants. Light forge pants drop and there are 0 paladins in the group. So i believe you :D

That isn't a "class specific" item. While it is certainly tailored for a Paladin, a Warrior could still wear it if he wanted. Class specific, by definition, are items that have class requirements attached to them.
