Subject: Expansion will be terribly Unbalanced
Why? Because they never bothered to make any progression for better blue gear. Dire Maul with its level 63 or so blue gear was their last effort for non-raiding. Ergo, that is all the majority of their players own. I'd venture a guess that at least 65% to 70% of their player don't own raid-instance epics.

Had they created a new instance with blue gear in the levels of around 63 to 70, then the expansion could have been ramped up in difficulty.

But they didn't, so this is how it will go:

Non raiders will chug through. They can't make it too difficult, or non-raiders won't even be able to do it. They'll never do that, they would not sell the expansion very well, nor keep many customers. So it will be paced as normal leveling for non-raiders wearing lvl 62 or less blue gear.

Raiders will absolutely blow through the content, making level 70 in very short order, wearing their T1 or better gear. They will move onto whatever raid content is available in the expansion rather quickly.

The offshoot of this? Raiders will be done with their content well before non-raiders, and clamoring for more. Ergo, that is what they will develop after the expansion, and we get back into the same rut we are in now, which is all raid, no non-raid content (except recycled of course ala .5)

Discuss if you want, but it's true. :p

I respect the fact that you're taking a broad view concerning the specific degree of impact design changes from our upcoming expansion might bring about for players. You lose me somewhat with your assumption based conclusions, however. It's one thing to create a post containing legitimate concerns for future content, but quite another to claim with such a certainty - "hey guys, here's exactly how it's going to be".

There have been numerous challenges and obstacles during the various stages of this game's development cycle. I won't even begin to explain just how massive such a project is from the design angle alone.Your concern simply outlines one of many challenges that will be overcome. The relative power level of players just reaching level 60 with low low level greens vs. players that have been level 60 for a year or more, equipped with high level purple gear is something that we've more than just 'considered'.

There wouldn't be a World of Warcraft for you, or anyone to play if we simply said to ourselves, "Damn, this cool new thing we want to add isn't balanced, scratch it from our to-do list". Instead, if it's cool and we're committed, we work together as a team and find a way to make it happen. The Burning Crusade is going to have so much to offer. I honestly can't even begin to explain just how excited I am, knowing what I have to look forward to as I watch the expansion develop.

I have yet to see a concern posted pertaining to the expansion that hadn't already been talked about amongst the designers.
