Is there a reason why Damage Spells and Healing Spells are treated differently in caster itemization?
Spell damage and healing are both spells!
It seems to me that if you have some '+nature spells', that should increase your effectiveness with both nature damage and nature healing.
I don't know if '+holy spells' even exists in the game, but if it did, shouldn't it make the holy wielder that much more effective whenever they cast holy spells, regardless of whether it's to heal or to damage?

Q u o t e: so they can add +healing and +damage seperatly, it takes more item level if you have both on it so giving just +damage will result in more then if you were using +dmg and +heal on the same item.
Grinin has one point about right. The types will affect the item budget. However, more importantly, the difference between the two can affect how an item is perceived in game.
An item with '+dmg and healing' is viable for all casters and could see more competition for the item in NBG rolls. A random stat item such as '+shadow dmg' will be better suited for particular classes and see less competition among players.
Treating them differently allows for more design options when creating items which then translates into options for the players in who wants or can use what item.
Bob is my co-pilot.
