Subject: Weather Effects...soon?
Somewhere a sad little orc child is sitting next to a shrinking oasis fishing hole in the barrens listening to the Cicada, his childhood daydreams cut short with dark thoughts as he casts his line.

Is the rain coming?

When happens when there is no more dried grass, baked gold by the sun? Will the wandering gazelle collapse from exhaustion? Will the Savannah Highmanes sleep forever beneath the Acacia trees?

Maybe the lost barrens kodo, in search of water, will never find its way home.

But the rain is coming...right?

The air will grow thick and rain clouds will gather. Long rumbles will scatter the Barrens Giraffe in fear of the forgotten sound of thunder.

The first drops will kick up dust on the dry golden roads that lead weary travelers home to the crossroads. Soothing worn bodies, with the promise of better days.

Horde Hearts heavy from the weigh of war, will hear the triumphant cries of the Zhevera, and will stop to turn their heads upward to the sky welcoming the rain. Life will be renewed.

The rain will come, won't it?

As the cicada hums and heat waves ripple through the high grasses. Somewhere a little Orc child wakes from his daydream, by a tug on his fishing line. He tries to save the catch but his line snaps. No fish dinner tonight.

He sighs and looks upwards to scan the sky, shading his eyes with one hand. Its clear, the sun is shining. The sun always shines.

But maybe someday... the rain will come.

(Heres to hoping for Weather in 1.10 and a change in the wind. ^_^)

I believe they're currently still slated for 1.10.

They do look awesome, and for what it's worth, I haven't noticed any significant slowdown in performance when they were on.

Q u o t e:
And what were the specs on that computer, cay? =)

Not giving my specific specs, but I will say the comp isn't really top-of-the-line. It's decent, mind, but not "screaming", as it were. (I'm not hip to the crazy lingo these days.)

Of course, the option will be there to turn them off if you dislike them or you find they're causing you issues, but performance is definitely something the developers kept in mind when creating the effects.

Q u o t e:
Why do you think it was suppose to come out in 1.9? I follow this stuff closesly and dont remember a mention by blue about weather effects in months.

Because we mentioned it was going to come out in 1.9. There was a technical issue, however, that delayed their launch.

Q u o t e:
Are we talking static effects (snow over Dun Morough for 10 minnutes every 2 hours), or a dynamic effect (sometimes snows lightly, sometimes blizzards, sometimes inbetween)?

The weather effects I've seen have varying degrees of strength. They come in with increasing cloudiness, then it starts drizzling... etc.

I'm not positive on the performance on the range of systems out there, but again, it's definitely one of the considerations when making such effects. I wouldn't worry overmuch.

I believe these effects are going to be cosmetic.

That looks awesome if it's real.

It looks about right. ;)

Q u o t e:
When the rain hits like say a pond does the water do what it is supposed to do?

Like make that vibration type look?

Also sorry one other question.

Will there be sounds that go along with the weather?

Thanks!

There are ripples, yes.

Not sure about the sound at the moment.
