Subject: To Tseric- High dmg potential of mages?

Q u o t e:
Survivability is definitely a tricky aspect for mages. Some of the difficulty lies in the anecdote you just relayed here. Mages have low HP with high damage potential. I have often heard and seen the primary targets of a group in PvP be either the mage or priest. Preist for obvious reasons, mages for the fact that they will deal ranged damage with slowing potential(frostbolt, etc.). If your friends are talking about taking down mages on TS, that pretty much tells me that mages are being targetted by groups. There isn't a designer solution for that. If a group selects targets, chances are the target will be taken out of the picture.

I think there is also a component which makes the death of a mage feel and seem more brutal, blunt or sudden. With survivability based in escape tactics and avoiding damage for mages, death can be abrupt. It isn't some extra HP that lets you die a little slower or some other aspect which innately extends life. The survival of a mage is primarily performance based and can thus be more frustrating than a defeat when you are wearing plate or have a big health bar.

This is not to place fault or blame anywhere, I'm just saying a mage's death can be more sudden and upsetting than most and it generates feedback related to such a thing. This is possibly why survivability will never go away as a topic of discussion for mages.

Sorry the other thread was way to long and figured you wouldn't read it again so new thread time.

Mages are targeted because we have low HP. We are targeted by multiple people at once because that person wants to get a hit in before we die. Every class in the game can solo a mage, its not because we need to be group targeted its just everyone targets the mage because we die fastast. You don't target a paladin first because they are a PAIN to kill, so you sheep them and kill the priests/druids. You dont target warriors first because they have tons of HP and healers to back them. You don't target a hunter because they can kite you unless you got 2 others attacking them. Its not because we have do 8k pyroblasts, its not because we can murder 40 people with AOE...its because we die fastest.

Yeah so relay this to your superiors when I get this fact acrossed to you. Mages ARE NOT high dmg potential. It is actually rediculous the dmg that mages do.

Do the math on an elemental shaman. With +216 dmg gear they WILL out dps a mage with +216 dmg wielding fireballs or frostbolts.

There is only one exception that this doesn't work for, that being AP mages, which is apparently the ONLY way a mage can get the dmg needed to kill something in PvP. So you may see a mage pull a 3600 dmg crit out but watch that shaman with the same gear pull a Chain lightning crit for ~2500 to 3 targets...gg.

So mages have low hp, medium dmg potential, can't heal, and low armor. Shamans have medium dmg potential, medium HP, CAN heal, and medium armor. GG blizzard balance.

Seriously though, elemental shamans will out dps mages. A druid with the same gear will also out dps the mage. Both classes can heal and DPS? GG.

Don't believe me go pull out the Shaman talents and do the numbers. The more +dmg the shaman gets the bigger the problem is actually. A mage vs a shaman both wielding +345 dmg gear the gap in DPS is actually larger than at +216. I use these numbers because a shaman friend was telling me last night that he could out DPS me. I thought it was BS but low and behold...shamans out dps mages.

Shamans have slowing potential just like frostbolts. They have a caster interupts, they have AOE snares, and they can HEAL. You say a mage death feels much worse? No it feels worse because we die every 30 seconds. I had a warrior MS me, then Hamstring me WHILE i was on my epic mount. He was 10yds behind me STILL killing me. I escaped with 300 hp only to get slapped with 1 moonfire and die. Then I spawn to only get aimed shot crit for 2300 and Ambush crit for 2k then Im dead again. GG.

So you wanna fix mages? Make our talent trees look like the elemental shaman tree. Give us more HP, more dmg, more armor...heck make us shamans that make water.

And how quickly did your shaman friend run out of mana when he tried to out-DPS you?

Q u o t e:
Give us more HP, more dmg, more armor...

And here we have the plain truth. Give mages buffs of all sorts of stuff.

Honest question. What would you trade for a buff in one of these areas? Asking for straight buffs just because you feel you need them is not going to convince the devs of a real issue. They aren't going to buff your DPS. They aren't going to give you more HP or Armor just because you want it. For every person that claims mages are gimped in PvP, there is someone else saying mages are fine in PvP.

But of course we can't prove this :D

But then again; you can't neither.
