If you say otherwise, you haven't been 60 for very long (or haven't made it there yet).
40 man raids suck. Keep telling yourself they don't. Whatever.
So go do DM? It can takes *hours* to just find a group for DM, and then you better pray the player's don't suck.
The end game should focus on PvP; it's World of Warcraft. You should be able to get to 60, and have the best gear available from PvE, in a reasonable time frame that doesn't require raiding...DM content sucks bad enough (ie time spent LFG, training noobs to the area, etc). Then make PvP rewards be the BEST gear, but the majority of players at 60 would have relatively equal gear. This can at least be semi-balanced. What you have now is a total mismatch of masochist players with the best PvE gear vs. people who refuse (or can't) raid.
People would be way more inclined to keep playing this game if they could gear their level 60 with the best PvE stuff available in about the same time it took to get to 60. The sudden 180 this game takes to obtain gear post 60 is a slap in the face, and more importantly, isn't fun. At all.
This issue isn't about *anything* other than what sucks and what doesn't. I have all kinds of time to play, but I refuse to raid because it sucks. Anyone who doesn't think it sucks is delusional. You shouldn't have to make special schedules to play a freaking game. Period.
I've made many alts. The problem here is that as these alts approach 60, they hit the same brick wall: Raid or your progression stops. Even if I do decide to do DM, what is really the point? I know anything I get is inferior to anything from MC+. I should just regulate my level 60s to literally playing once or twice a week (when raid x is scheduled) at this point? Ridiculous.
Gear is the only form of progression post 60 in this game. The best gear available sucks really, really hard to get. It isn't fun. It should be HARD, but it should be FUN. 40 man raids aren't fun. They suck. Failing a 5 man instance because one or two people aren't very good at their role is something you can deal with. Failing because you can't find 40 people, at a very specific time, for a long period of consecutive time, is ludicrous.
If the expansion requires me to be keyed/flagged/40 man raid for more than 20% of the content in order to reach 70, I'll quit within a month. You can use all your tired arguments of "it needs to be 40 man to be hard" blah blah BS. DM Tribute runs with a PuG aren't hard??? Whatever you say. If people knew they could get a level 60 with the best PvE gear available w/o raiding, they would keep making alts. Eventually they would have 8 Level 60 characters with the best PvE gear available, and they could look forward to expansions and the true end game of PvP (and actually be on somewhat level ground).
The only argument against this line of thinking is one of Epeen pride. God forbid there be 1000 other Warriors (et al) that are *exactly* like you in gear and attacks. God forbid there be balance. God forbid there be a focus on SKILL, and most importantnly, *reputation* of characters. You actually want to be known as the person who spends the most amount of time playing a GAME? Wouldn't you rather be part of a community with the common bond of graduating as a Level 60 with the best gear for your class, now ready to make a name for yourself as a TEAM player who is really SKILLED?
Apparently not.
Edit:
As I stated, I have all kinds of time to pay. What difference does it make if I can only do content that yields the best gear on a specific *schedule*?? I can play 10+ hours everyday...and?? I cannot do MC w/o 39 other people. I have to find 39 other players who play at the exact same times I do, and can commit 3+ consecutive hours to boot? So I should LIVE online? It's ridiculous and you know it. It isn't about hardcore vs casual (et al). It is 100% about what sucks and what doesn't. It makes ZERO difference how much time *I* have if 39(!) other players can't play with me. As if 5 man groups aren't hard enough to deal with. Whatever, logic for the win.[ post edited by Oochie ]

If you're unhappy with an aspect of the game (or the game as a whole) and wish to state so in a polite and constructive manner, that's fine - that's one of the purposes these forums exist. However, stating that you're certain everyone else shares your thoughts on the matter, or doesn't have enough game experience or the proper state of mind to make the same determination is just plain, narrow-minded.
Also, in the future if you decide to post, one thing I'd keep in mind - if you have to use the word "suck" as an adjective, your message is probably not very well thought out, or appropriate. Despite your misconception, these boards are not your personal arena to voice your contempt.

Q u o t e: Actually "sucks" is slang and cannot truly be used an adjective. :)
Exactly.
