Subject: SO... should i quit then? im debating it....~
like... im at the point now where i can go for my epics w/ my 60 mage... but then by the time i get them all the expansion will be out and they will be obsolete... so what do i do then. go for pvp? and just try to keep my rank up for the next few months?

i am not so "into" the battlegrounds as they are very repetitive...

also im a casual player... so im thinking of canceling my account till the expansion... or what. i could role a new class... but im realy looking forward to the expansion for that.
will there be more custimization for new classes in the expansion? that would be good...

WHAT DO I DO!!! thanks :D

Well, I'm not going to tell you what to do. I am only going to offer my own perspective on the matter.

The time between now and expansion still finds me wanting to level up some other characters, or at least maximize some of the characters I have. I don't look at it as a matter of "now that the level cap is 70, all my work at 60 is irrelevant". I look at it as a matter of "what is the best position for me to engage in new content when it's released?".

I look at it as one of two options for me.

One, I roll a character of the new race and go through starting areas and quest lines. I also think Blood Elves would make really good warlocks. That remains to be seen, but I'm pretty set in my assertion.

Two, I continue work on current characters, looking to optimize a few things. The most obvious path is gear. If I have Tier-2 gear at release of the expansion, I will be in a better position to fight same and higher level mobs that will be available. Obviously this would make the leveling curve a little easier for me. The other consideration would be the refinement of my tactics, familiarity with my character and the ability to work well in a group. This would help in meeting new challenges and tackling new foes.

I think these considerations would place me in a good position to immediately immerse myself in the Outland and see everything I may want to that might be presented.

So, what you may regard as a situation that has the bar raised and your prior contribution trivialized, I regard as opportunity to prepare. The basis of skill is in acquired and applied knowledge. Or, as the old adage goes, practice makes perfect. If I am practiced, I allow myself the opportunity to take full advantage of the level-cap increase and the new zones that come hand in hand with it.

Of course, I base advancement on a variety of things, some of which do not overlap with other players' notions yet are still supported by game mechanics ;)
My opinions are just that. As are the facts.

Now this brings up an interesting design issue for the expansion pack.

What are the minimum specs for a players character to complete level 61 quests? Can a fresh Level 60, with only the gear they collect through the levelling process, go straight onto level 61 quests? In fact, will there be enough appropriate gear dropped during various small quests to complete the 61-70 levelling process, or is there an expectation that people will stop and raid to get up to spec before they move onto the expansion.

This is a really interesting design problem, because there are level 60s and then there are LEVEL 60s.

My guess is they would pitch the early levels for the lowest common denominator, and those uber-geared players will breeze through them (As Tseric hints at). Hopefully questing and smaller instancing along the way closes the gap by the time everyone gets to 70. Or maybe not.

Not interested in stirring up the endgame debate at all. More like genuinely curious about how you will manage designing for such a broad range of player ability. As it looks, the early levels are not going to be terribly changeling for the well geared player.

Now, what I'm going to say has a high likelyhood of being misconstrued, but that isn't going to stop me from saying it.

I think too many people confuse good ability with good gear.

I will admit, good gear can give you an edge, but it is simply not going to compensate for a well played character. Getting good gear will not inherently make you a better player. Having a few extra points in this or that stat may assist in certain situations, but it won't help you cope.

I know you didn't want to stir up this "hardcore/casual" debate, but the general forums are so immersed, it's dang near possible to avoid. So, I will have to indulge for a bit. ;)

A common arguement I see for the want of non-raid epic loot hinges around the fact that non-raiders feel they can not compete in PvP without said loot. To reduce PvP success to gear alone is missing a larger element of this accomplishment.

Raiders are practiced and familiar with working in a group and playing off of each others strengths and weaknesses to accomplish goals. They tend to achieve goals as a group.

That's as simple as I can say it right now.

I don't think anyone wants to argue the point that a steady, familiar, probably guilded group in a battleground is going to have an advantage over a PUG group. And it ain't gonna be the gear that is the deciding factor.

My previous post was merely alluding to the fact that familiarity with my character will breed familiarity with other classes, the game and larger strategies. It will be those factors which allow some players to progress more quickly through content than others. I am not going to assert that as sociological fact, but it's a difficult notion to argue. Those that think it's all about the gear...well...there probably isn't much I could say to convince you otherwise.
My opinions are just that. As are the facts.

You should be writing speeches for important people like politicians or Angelina Jolie.

I thank you for the compliment. I just may have a different opinion on who or what is "important". ;)
