Subject: A Suggestion for the CMs
   Caydiem/Eyonix/Fangtooth/etc:

There are, at any given time, four or five threads with 15+ pages, asking questions or making good points about the game's design, which receive no reply from you.

At the same time, there are just as many (possibly more) mediocre joke threads or pointless threads which you respond to on the first page.

I understand, completely, that you are incapable of giving us answers in these threads. I know that you can't tell us if the colors for the Hunter Tier 2 set or the helmet for the Warrior Tier 2 set can be changed. I know you can't tell us if weather will be implemented in the next patch. I know that you are incapable of giving answers to almost all of these questions, because you only serve as a messenger between the posters and the devs.

But if you just said "I'll relay this to the devs" or "I'll have someone take a serious look at it," I think that a lot of people would be happy.

I understand that this means more posts weeks down the line about "What happened with the report" or "When are we going to see some changes," but honestly, I think that everyone could deal with that if we just knew that our voices were being heard by the devs.

In addition - do you still give weekly reports to the devs on the status of the forums? If so, would it be possible to post meeting notes (shortened or not) after these meetings?

Just an idea.

Please understand that we don't post unless we have information on those threads as a matter of course.

The second we start doing that again -- posting "I'll pass this on", basically -- every single thread that has yet to receive a blue response but has what the OP thinks is a valid complaint, concern or suggestion starts being furiously bumped until they too receive such confirmation. We end up spending all our time saying we'll pass it on without getting the time to actually do it.

(And before it's brought up, no, an indicator that a Blue has read a thread would not work and would, in fact, continue to breed this problem.)
It's dark.

Q u o t e:
Why don't you let the MVPs help you?

At the end of each week (much like the Warcraft Weekly), the MVPs would collaborate and make a thread outlining the biggest issues of the week (maybe 5 or whatever). And I'm not sure if it's possible but make it so that only MVPs and CMs could post in there. Then developers could easily read that thread and give you the answers to post quickly and efficiently.

The MVPs could help out and do something like this "Concerns" thread posted by CM on the Euro forums:
http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-mage-en&t=72658&p=1&tmp=1#post72658

Give the MVPs some power to help you AND the "real" community (rather than just answering noob posts and repeated questions).

For legal reasons, I can't do that.

We DO have dedicated moderators that do nothing but police the forums. If you've ever seen Coreiel or Sinther around, that's who they are.

And again with the MVP idea, the entire idea is unusable for legal reasons. I wasn't just speaking about one half of it -- I was talking about all of it.

Q u o t e:
It would demand more constructive posts. If I got a 24-hour ban for trolling, I'd stop. At least for a month or two.

It could work on a strike system - the third time you got a 24-hour ban, you got bumped up to week-long bans, and after one or two of those you just got banned completely.

That's how it works right now, almost to the letter... except with less leniency than you state. It's actually much, much more strict. Remove your "two or three times" for both lengths and you'll have a good idea.

The majority of people come off their 24-hour bans and are fine... for a while.

Then they slip back into their old ways and are suspended for a week. They normally come back remorseful and subdued, but eventually kick it up to where they're permanently banned.

Players aren't banned from here with any amount of fanfare. It just takes a while to work through the system. Rest assured, though, just like Santa, we keep our list of naughty children. ;)

Q u o t e:
It's good to hear that the system is in place - have you tried banning people more frequently? Try throwing them out there whenever you catch anything even remotely inappropriate. You have that power, and even if they get kicked out and make a fuss, it's unlikely that anyone'll miss them.

Please understand that we don't cut people breaks at all if they're blatantly violating policy. We DO act on a lot of what you see -- unless it's truly foul, though, it's not deleted, so you may see something against policy and think it isn't being acted upon when, in fact, it is.

But you have to realize just how many people there are that visit these boards. We permaban several people a day, but more people step up to take their place.

A revamp of the forum software is underway, and we're implementing a few checks and features that should hopefully control the volume of the sort of posts you dislike.
