Subject: BlizzCon Movie Contest Winners
We are happy to announce the winners of the official BlizzCon World of Warcraft Movie Competition, sponsored by NVIDIA. We were truly amazed at the skill our winners demonstrated in combining in-game footage, original music and music from our games. Check out these awesome movies by following the link below!

I speak from personal experience -- every single movie I watched when judging this contest was under 25 megs. Once they won, we went seeking higher resolution movies for them if they existed, since they were going to be shown on a HUGE screen at BlizzCon and we wanted them to look their best.

When I judged, though, I was judging with the grainy high compression that tends to accompany long videos squeezed into a small filesize.

Also, what Liadov says is correct -- original music was allowed. We realize this was unclear to those who did not thoroughly review the official rules, however, and will try to make it more noticeable next time. :)

Q u o t e:
Cay,

Do you know what Blizzard's position is on us releasing our videos on DVD? We've had some requests for the TV version and would like to know if there are any problems with us distributing a DVD version.

Thanks!

Mmmmm... do you have a contact at Blizzard you've been speaking with at all, Gobbler? If you're planning on selling DVDs, that's something that needs to be discussed with the company.

I hope your forget that rule It's difficult to work with a restricted selection I bet. You will get more submissions if you do and that was the reason a few of us did not enter a movie or try to make one.

The reason that limitation existed was due to the uploading of the movie -- as it was going to our own server, we needed to manage the space very carefully. It also leads amateur movie-makers to look closely at compression; so many don't compress their movies at all. While that's certainly great for quality, it's not so good for your viewers, and learning to compress in a manner that makes the filesize more manageable without compromising quality is a good skill to have. :)
