I've not personally posted a single thing about the expansion because I'm not about to risk a ban but I have to ask... when its all said and done why ARE you guys (Caydiem and the other CMs) going on a post deletion spree? It doesn't make sense to me that Blizzard puts information out there BEFORE they're blessed Blizzcon extravaganza only to instantly go on the defensive the moment the information starts trickling in. Sure I realize that magazine isn't out yet but if your goal was to keep everything hush hush till next week why would you even consider releasing ANY info to ANYone prior to that? We already know what the new horde race is and the information is going to circulate regardless. Why not embrace it and go with the flow instead of being so "IRONFISTED" about it? I just don't see the possible benefits you gain from doing so. [ post edited by Bernil ]

We haven't put information "out there".
Until this information comes from Blizzard or an officially-sanctioned (and already published, not leaked) source, it will be treated as all other unreleased content rumors, whether or not they're true -- deletion and suspension.
Wait a week, folks. It's not a long period of time.

The information has not been "published", no, hence my phrasing.

Q u o t e: So we're not allowed to speculate based on limited information? Obviously it's not guaranteed, but that shouldn't mean that we can't just talk a little about it. I mean come on, that's half the fun! Pondering the expansion with fellow game owners. A week is a long time when you're waiting for an expansion to a game like WoW...
One week, Arkeem. Wait one week. Then we'll probably make an Expansion forum and you can speculate based on the limited information that has been officially released to your heart's desire.

Q u o t e: This is where I have to disagree. Deletion and suspension for discuissing rumors? That's goes beyond acceptable ands isn't even good from a marketing perspective.
Wouldn't it be much better to take a "no comment, no action" stance on such rumors? With out confirmation, they remain just that, rumors. This allows people to have fun speculating on things, allows the devs to judge feedback on the rumors that behind the scenes are true and just creates a lot of buzz about the game.
Those are the rules of the forum to which you folks agreed and we have to enforce them. Simple as that.

Fun with expansion information can come after things have been officially released. Sorry, Arkeem, but I can't budge on this -- if you post about it, regardless if it's fake or real, it's getting nuked.

Cay, if a week is so short, why can't we converse about it for that long?
I don't know. I guess I just see no reasoning behind it, and that bothers me.
A week is short in some respects, long in others.
I'm PR. It's what I do, and it's from that branch of the company that I take my tasks many a day.
A week is a short amount of time when you're waiting to discuss something. It may seem an age now, but once it's past you'll be happily speculating as if nothing stopped you before.
A week is a long time when you're sitting on an announcement. An expansion announcement with information is coming. It's scheduled for that time for a wealth of reasons, and as these are our official forums, we ask that you do not post, speculate, etc on rumors of unreleased content that have not been officially released.
That's the party line, and that's what I'm enforcing. It's not up for negotiation.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Has anyone else noticed how angry the CM's have been lately. They are threatening people all the time.
Never was a Business major, never planned on it. I was an Art major. I'm a gamer who has the skills necessary for this job; that's why I'm here. Thanks for the nice ad hominem attempt, though. :)

Q u o t e: Honestly Cay, do you think we care about the "rules".... Give me a break, we just 'accept' those words to come here are find out info.
Not many people here take those "rules" to heart, or even care about them.
You want to ban us for talking about the expansion of this game, go right ahead, but your not making friends...
... And a little side note, if the release date for this expansion is true, May 2006, you have already lost 1/2 of your members to upcoming MMO's.
GG nubs.
You can put "accept" in quotes all you like -- I could happily say to a restaurant manager that I simply "accepted" his no shoes, no shirt, no service policy to get in the door so I could eat, and proceed to strip then and there, but despite my given condition of the acceptance I would still face the consequences of breaking the rule.
The fact of the matter is that you did accept them, and your behavior here is bound by them. Please don't be surprised if we enforce them. :P

The fact of the matter is this is the Internet... We dont follow "rules" here. I'll probably be banned for this. But its the fact, this is not real life and those rules you make up are just a screen before we get to the forums.
Banning people for something like this does one thing. Make them quit.
You are on Blizzard's private servers when posting on this forum. The rules do apply. On your own separate chunk of the Internet, you can be king of your own domain and perpetuate the free, boundless society you seem to think applies to the entirety of the Internet.
"Real life" dictates that the "freedom" of the Internet was rather quashed after the dot-com boom and bust. ;) That's an interesting attitude hold-out from the 90s that I haven't seen for a while. Kudos to you for believing it, but here it simply isn't true. You agreed to rules and you are bound by them, both on the forums and in-game. The forums are not public domain, but privately owned and operated. You accepted the conditions, and they apply to you the same as they do to everyone else who chose the same path.
