Cay posted a possible oceania server conditions for comments
Q u o t e: Here's an honest question for you folks.
Would you want an "Oceania" realm if:
- It still received maintenance at the same time as the other realms?
- It was located in the US, thus not decreasing your latency?
- We could not offer transfers to this new realm (until such time as the Transfer service was available, of course)?
the last thread broke, keep the comments coming :)

Q u o t e:
You go to a restaurant.
You order a steak.
One half of the steak is cooked to perfection, it is probably the best steak you have ever tasted. The other half is covered in maggots, crawling around in their own filth. You really enjoy one half of the steak, but it's hard to enjoy it with all those maggot crawling around.
You complain to the waiter about the steak. You demand that he fetch you a fresh one, one that is cooked properly and not half covered in maggots. Instead, he offers you a blindfold. His reasoning: surely, if you can't see the maggots, then you won't have a problem eating it. If you accept the blindfold, the steak will not be improved. You will be stuck with this steak and will have to pay for it if you want to eat it.
You consider this. You can either accept the waiter's offer and eat the rest of the steak. Or you can demand you get what you pay for. You can demand that you get a fresh steak that is maggot free, which is exactly what you should have received in the first place. All you want is what any other paying customer would get.
To respond to Hocuz...
I will be perfectly frank with you. You're welcome to make all the noise you choose to make on this subject provided you follow our policies, but noise alone will not necessarily change the situation. In order for us to open realms in Oceania for those players, it would have to be a cost-effective move. We know how many players there are from the area, and at this time, it simply does not make economic sense to open realms in that region. All the noise in the world to Blizzard won't change that one simple fact. Now, we're always monitoring the situation, and the decision could certainly be re-evaluated in the future should certain factors change, but as it stands now, there are no plans to create what many of you consider your ideal realm setup.
I know you want low ping. I know you'd like a maintenance time scheduled in your wee hours. I know you'd like a realm where Oceania players -- and only Oceania players -- would play. I can't give you that.
What is possible at the moment is perhaps one US realm of each main ruleset (PvE and PvP) flagged "Oceania-preferred" that would have the same support (maintenance and GM) as all other realms. Transfers are a possibility, but they might not be from all realms. That's what is feasible with what we have now; that is what we can currently offer you.

Q u o t e: In response to Caydiem,
Would it not be a resonable request to ask for a server which runs at Oceanias' timezone. If there is already such a server I am not aware of it and please excuse my ignorance. However a major cinder for many of us from down under is the server shutdown during our primetime playtime.
It's not much to ask that our playtime is not interrupted, if you scheduled maintenance during US peaktime the forums would crash. I wish we had enough players here to do that.
Quite frankly I do not believe that there are not enough players from Oceania to warrant the same privelages the US players receive. There should be a server which uses our timezone and which performs maintenance during our offpeak times and we should be allowed unrestricted transfers to this server/s.
This would not be anywhere near an adequate solution, but at least it would show that Blizzard as a whole is driven by customer support and not the dollar intake...
Edit: I have a number of friends who refuse to play WoW because of the way we are treated, I am sure there are more players from this region with friends who share this opinion.
I apologize, but switching maintenance times involves quite a bit more than one might think. I can't go into details -- proprietary information is a large part of it -- but there's personnel and other such things to consider, too. As such, an "Oceania-preferred" realm would be on our maintenance schedule. It's not ideal for you, and I'm well aware of that, but that's what we can offer.
Folks, I know many of you find my initial statement in this thread hard to believe, but we do have the figures internally. Now, I can't give you those figures. I don't have access to many of them personally myself, and that sort of information tends to be kept internal regardless. Understand, however, that what I said is the current status of the situation. (Yes, New Zealand and all other Oceania players were included.)
Now, many of you have brought up the concern that US players would flood the realm if they were released. I understand the sentiment -- but what we'd probably do for you is release several realms at once, only having a few flagged Oceania-preferred, so those realms aren't the ONLY new, shiny realms available. That would hopefully dilute the normal rush.

Q u o t e: Why can't we have an english speaking server in China??
It's close to us, it's only 2hrs behind, and since there is already a maintenance schedule for the existing servers, would not the cost be minimal?
Afraid not, no. The cost would still be quite high, since there's a wealth of issues involved in connecting to a different region. That, and in your particular suggestion's case, there are a number of laws and other such restrictions we must be aware of and work through.
