You've got to be kidding me. I can find atleast 3 honorable mentions that totally blow this one away, was this a biased judge? I mean.. c'mon some of the posters that are in honorable mentions are totally better than this one and deserve to be winners..

Hi.
I was one of the judges (there was a panel of about ten of us). There's a variety of things that go into judging these.
Honestly, my personal choice would have been the Typhy Maroid poster for that slot, but we all grade on different virtues, and some enforce variety in style when it comes to these choices. For the style, it was done very well.
As one of the most art-inclined on the judging team, I tend to be one of the most critical when it comes to execution. Several of the Honorable Mentions did a fabulous job, but didn't quite have that edge we were looking for. The entry you're referring to was bold and very clear-cut -- precisely what that style is supposed to invoke.
EDIT: Feel free to post your opinions, but make them criticisms -- not insults. Remember that these are people who play the game, and insulting them is just like insulting another poster on these forums.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

EDIT #2: Apparently we need some clarification on what "criticism" entails. Here's a hint -- the terms "suck", "blow", and any variant thereof is an insult, not a criticism. Keep it constructive.
EDIT #3: I am suspending people who can't get the hint. Constructive criticism, folks. It's not hard.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Q u o t e: Thanks, Trang.
I had almost thought about dirtying up the poster a bit but thought it may have been too much.
Oh well, guess I'll just stick to my day job and buy one of them new fangled iPods with video downloads.
Honestly, Taema, I didn't see your entry. :/ Are you certain you submitted it correctly?

Q u o t e: P.S. - IMO, the poster was very well done by an obviously talented artist but should not have been considered based on the format provided. The fact that it was tells me that the judges based their votes originally on artistic talent and diversity within the winning submissions. And, to be honest, I don't think I have a problem with that, except that guidelines were provided and that this poster is shaky at best in regards to them.
Well, there's not going to be a dramatic reversal regardless.
Here's the contest rules:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/contests/hitch-wanted/rules.html;jsessionid=B6F2990DC1252704E6B37CF94A2888D0.app04
Here's the page:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/contests/hitch-wanted/
Point out where the image is shaky in regards to the guidelines provided, please.
Now, it might not fit what is your ideal of a Wanted Poster, but that is different from not following the guidelines... which were, and I quote:
Q u o t e: Winners shall be chosen by Sponsor at its sole discretion based upon which submissions are the most original, authentic and/or funny artistic expression of a "wanted poster" that is based on the Blizzard Product. The decision of Sponsor is final.
Now, "authentic"? Not in a realistic fashion. "Funny"? Eh, not really to me. Original, though... in a swathe (and boy, did we look at a lot) of similar Googled images of burnt paper with game screen overlays in a sepia tone... yes, quite a bit. It popped. It stood out from the rest in a good way -- the art was different and high quality, the style simple, bold, and eye-catching. Now, we recognized a lot of the good "authentic" posters, as many as we demonstrably could -- and if they included all three elements, fantastic! But there's something to be said for standing out in the crowd.
Again, these are voted on by committee, and it wasn't my particular choice in the top five, but that's how it goes sometimes. I'm one of the most technical/art-criticizing judges on the panel, normally, due to my background; the others tend to judge on their own particular merits in keeping with the contest, and we all agree after slapping each other around for a while.

Q u o t e: In comparison to 75% of the honourable mentions, the winner did not deserve to win. It won because the judges were sick to death at looking the same thing over and over. Just because it was different in comparison to all the other entries, does not make it a feasible winner.
I'd just like to say that I'm going to assume alot of the art team were on that panel, and now we know why the armour and weapons in this game look like they were drawn by a dyslexic.
Interesting assumption but untrue. I'm one of the only "artists" that was on the panel, such as it is. Here's a sample of my work...

I'll leave you to your own conclusions on whether or not that appears as if it was drawn by a "dyslexic".
(Incidentally, a quick study into dyslexia shows that those with the disability tend to excel in art... so I'll happily pass along your compliment to our art team!)

Q u o t e: The very fact that the Artwork basically failed 2 out of 3 factors speaks volumes on the judges final decisions. It was only eye-catching because it hurts to stare at. There wasn't even an attempt at saying WHY the depicted character was 'Wanted'. Isn't that the ENTIRE reason those types of posters were put up? To show WHY the person in the picture was Wanted?

Both of those images school that winner.
Please quote for me where in the rules it states that one must include a reason for the subject of the poster being Wanted.
...
I couldn't find it either.
In addition, the rules state and/or, not solely and... thus it didn't have to be funny, for example, in order to win.

Q u o t e: Because that always has been and always will be the generic stereotype of a 'Wanted' poster. Please find me a 'Wanted' poster in history that doesn't give an explanation, no matter how brief, as to why the person is indeed 'Wanted'.
So if you were an employer and 2 people sent in resumes, 1 of them had ONE of 3 attributes you were looking for and the other had ALL 3, would you hire the first person simply because they fit ONE attribute? No, of course not. You would choose the person best suited around everything you were looking for. That winning poster failed in that respect.
Thank you for your opinion.
The judging committee as a whole does not agree with you.
That's simply the way the chips fall.
