I am a little confused about something...
As we all know blizzard is trying to keep as much info about the upcoming expansion a secret, but why?
Would it really matter if you gave us "no information" vs. "all the information"?
I don't understand the difference, everyone would still buy it, or am I missing something?
I know "I" would be (am) ridiculusly interested in this expansion, and I know nothing about it.
This game rocks!

A variety of reasons, really.
A lot of things can change in early development. Feature lists can fluctuate an insane amount. Even down the beta line, you have to be careful about "coming features", because there's a chance they may not make the cut. At this stage in the game, while we naturally have a good idea of what we want to see, the information we give you -- if we gave you everything we planned -- would most likely be wildly off from the end product.
This community tends to latch onto such things as gospel truth. In order to avoid that sort of bite in the future, we tend to announce things only when we're pretty confident about their inclusion.
Another reason is the existence of competition. It's good to give a few features for the public to digest, but to give everything opens the way for being upstaged by another game. It can get ugly. In general, some things tend to be kept backstage because of that.
Lastly, another reason why we're not giving any specific information right now is due to public relations. Magazines often seek exclusive rights to big reveals like this, and many times we comply. As such, there are times when we must wait to give details due to what's going on in the press.
Does that explain the situation more clearly for you?

Q u o t e: we don't care about magazines we just want info. why should you give it to them and just not straight to the public via your website?
I suppose I'll explain a bit about the philosophy behind media relations.
Now it's great for a company when their game is being covered in a popular industry magazine. Why? It's advertisement. It gets people reading. It brings in many potential customers, and that's always a good thing, right?
Magazines have to benefit from this, too, of course; exclusives are one of the most powerful things they can feature that brings up sales.
As such, it's a win-win situation for both parties. I'm aware that you want information immediately, and I can sympathize with that sentiment, but there are a great many facets to the world of business in gaming. :)

Q u o t e: I can understand not giving specifics, it makes sense. What about vague information, or more broad information. Things like new continents, new races and even just the amount of hero classes (aka is class = hero class or this there more than one hero class per class?)
It seems pretty certain that if a race was going to be added that by beta time its pretty set. Not like one would wipe out a whole city/cities, towns, npcs and assosciated quests, racial abilities, flight paths and such late in development.
The reasons why have already been covered. Your answers lay within my first post; they apply to what you're asking.

Q u o t e: I ask you this. Will there be any type of beta phases for the Expansion, such as Closed Alpha, then exclusive Beta, like the real game? =\
I can't give ANY information about the expansion right now; sorry. Mum's the word.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Q u o t e: Darn you MUM!
But I'm sure it's suffice to say there will be internal testing, friends + family members, etc.
I'm sure you know how I feel about assumptions. :P Let's not assume anything at this early stage in the game, hm?
