Subject: Please give feedback - Ethics question
This might ramble a little bit, but thanks for taking the time to read...

Last saturday, I joined a new guild, a big enough guild to run MC and all that good stuff, and this is my first guild of this size. Anyway, we ran MC that night, all went well, and the next day i ran a PUG through UBRS.

In this group happened to be a priest from our guild, who honestly I didn't know from a hole in the wall, as this was my first full day of being in the guild. Anyway, we get to The Beast, and the only 315 skinner in the raid group skins the beast, and the pristine hide drops. I was the raid leader, and we talked it over for a couple minutes and ended up deciding to give 100g from the raid (which i paid in full by the way) to the skinner, as well as giving him two rolls for the hide. Everyone else int he group FFA'ed, regardless of need, and this was OK with everyone.

anyway, I roll a 98, which looked pretty bad since i was completely on fire and won eight rolls in that one single run, and I win the hide. So I head on back to ironforge, and since i'm an ice spec'ed mage who, imo, doesnt have too much use for +crit on ice spells, i decide to sell the hide in order to pay for my epic mount(i had 100g at the time). The priest who was in the raid with me calls me a ninja and leaves the guild over it. He doesnt talk to me about it, or the guild, just leaves, and since he's a priest, it's more unforgivable than if he was any other member (this was admitted by the person who originally chewed me out).

to make an incredibly long story short, the following happened:

I had an argument with the leader of the guild, explaining my point of view etc, and he wanted me to at least take the Hide off of the AH. I did, reluctantly. So today, I talk to another one of the guild leaders, in charge of ZGP, and he agrees with me to give me DKP and ZGP in exchange for giving the hide to the guild bank, to which I agree. Literally an hour later, he tells me that he's not in charge of DKP, only ZGP, and he can't give me DKP (which is the main thing i wanted since i have a lot more time to play on weekends). This mainly annoys me becuase i'm new to the guild, and really don't have much of an idea of who's in charge of what.

I asked this person to allow me to have the hide back until we work out a better deal, and one that will satisfy everyone. He claims I already gave it to the guild bank, and it's theirs now, and I will be compensated with ZGP, which honestly i don't care much about.

I fully understand the guild first mentality, but a couple things about this whole thing irritated me.

1) It wasnt like they were going to give it to the priest, or like he was the next highest roll.

2) I feel like I was somewhat taken advantage of as the newbie of the guild, and they failed to explain to me all the rules as they are.

3) This was not a guild policy I broke. The priest lord of the guild stated that the only real reason he was upset is because the priest left, not because what I did was wrong in any way.

So, I ask you, the WoW community, who's out of line here? Me? Or my guild?

ps, thanks for anyone who stayed with this post for this long, I know it was long.

I personally think that you should not have given up the hide. You won the roll for it after giving the skinner gold and two chances to win it. The way the Priest acted was uncalled for, IMO. I also think that your guild should have acted in a more professional manner. I personally would not be with that guild after all this, but again that is just me.
