I spent a lot of money stockpiling these items in the past few months to use in either PvP or against raid bosses. Changing EXISTING items to be soulbound is completely unfair.
I now have a lot of money invested in making level 1 banker characters more powerful against horde and Ragnaros.
Why were existing items not grandfathered in to remain unchanged?
When in doubt, chicken out.

The changes were specifically made to prevent players from farming these items and either selling them or using them on higher level characters. So, what you seem to be asking is that you want one last time to abuse a game mechanic? What, for nostalgia? Or that you want a return on an investment that was never intended to occur in the first place?

Q u o t e: I have a problem with your company ALLOWING such investments to occur for nearly a year, then deciding that they are going to make a change that wastes my time and money.
Further, I have a problem with customer service representatives implying that I'm intentionally cheating in a game. Tell me: If you play a game and something works a particular way for a year, what would make you think that it's against the rules?
You, sir, can go to hell.
I apologize if my comments seem barbed. I was trying to use some humor to illustrate a point. Perhaps that was misplaced.
Let me ask you a question. If there was a black market economy that was then regulated by authorities through limitation on the sale or shipping of such items, does it really seem reasonable to "grandfather" some items? So, instead of everyone buying and selling, now only some are? How is that more fair than having no one buy or sell these items?[ post edited by Tseric ]

Q u o t e: First off, this is not real life. This is a video game. More specifically, this is a MMORPG. The entire game is built around implementing items that only a few people have. That's what keeps players here--The drive to get those items.
Other changes you made to items, such as the Green Lens and the Fist of Stone from Maraudon, did not affect the ones already in game. They only stopped them from dropping in the future. How is that any different? How is that any more fair to the new players that can't get it?
You're right...this is an MMO. And it is a main tenet, of pretty much every game out there, that changes will be made and retro-active reimbursement is not feasible. In some cases (like the ones you mentioned) two distinct items can be made to allow for a phase-out. However, the context of this change is completely different, as well as the change itself.
I would consider this as a "good while it lasted" scenario and leave it at that.
