Subject: Spirit Attribute need a buff?
I apologize if this has been broght up before, I don't frequent the General Forum much.

Is it just me or is Spirit a highly undesirable stat when compared to the other 4? Very, very rarely do I put Spirit ahead of anything in my builds, and it is never my first priority. Here is what I mean:

Warrior: Stamina, Strength/Agility, Intelligence, Spirit
Hunter/Rogue: Agility, Stamina, Strength, Intelligence, Spirit
Mage/Priest/Warlock: Intelligence, Stamina, Agility, Spirit, Strength
Paladin: Stamina, Intelligence/Strength, Agility, Spirit
Shaman/Druid: Intelligence, Stamina, Agility, Strength, Spirit

When you do the math here, my rankings for stats are as follows:

Stamina: 1.7
Intelligence: 2.1
Agility: 2.6
Strength: 3.7
Spirit: 4.6

I don't value Spirit on my Warrior at all. Intelligence will increase my weapon skill faster, which will save me time when I am keeping my One-handers up to skill for when I need to sword and board a boss. Spirit does not affect my rage, and my Warriors are always Cooking/First Aid/Fishing, so I eat after battle anyway. The little bit of regeneration during a battle seems pretty trivial. The rate just seems to be too low to make a significant difference, and Spirit will never take priority over Stamina, Strength or Agility on my Warrior.

My Hunter does not mind Spirit, as it can increase the generation of my mana in combat, but I don't use mana that fast in battle and I rarely wish I had more than my +10 or so Spirit. The only time I even think I would want Spirit is after I have to Revive my pet, as I don't usually have water on me. Spirit is an absolute waste on my Rogue. If I ever take significant damage, I eat, so the Spirit does not really ever help me on health. And, like Rage, Spirit does not affect my Energy. There is no reason for me to build Spirit for my Rogue.

On the caster classes one would think that Spirit would matter, but from my experience, it doesn't. Intelligence is obviously the main stat, giving the higher mana pool, and it's hard to argue against Stamina being second. I prefer Agility over Spirit, as it increases my Dodge rate, making me take less hits. When I dropped 10 Spirit from my Priest after getting nice new pants, I did not see any noticeable difference in my mana regeneration in combat, and I drink between battles on my Mage and my Priest. Health regeneration is trivial for Priests who can heal themselves, and for Warlocks who can Drain Life and Conjure Health Stones. My Mage can make his own food, so I simply eat between battles. Also, Auto-Shoot on Wands gives me significant damage output with no mana cost, so I can feasibly reduce the number of spells I cast, reducing the amount of mana consumed. Last time I played my Priest, I was able to chain about 5-6 mobs before I needed to worry about sitting to drink. If I had tried, I could have reduced my mana consumption as well.

For the Paladin, it is arguable whether Stamina or Intelligence should be the priority stat, and maybe whether Agility or Strength is more important. This is the way I decided to go with my Paladin, but I think most everyone would agree that Spirit is 4th or 5th priority. Just like the Priest, Health regeneration is trivial with the ability to heal. Mana on a Paladin is easily managed, since most of what he casts is only once or twice per battle. Sure, they have very high mana costs, but then you have the rest of the fight to regen. Also, Blessing of Wisdom really helps mitigate the issue, and you can always fall back on Water.

I am constantly shifting what I am looking for in my Shaman and Druid, but this is a pretty good look at where I am today. They both make full use of basically all the stats as they Cast and Melee. But, I have never put Spirit above anything else on the list. Once again, it comes down to a Healing class negating the Health regeneration. Shamans have mana replenishment totems and Druids spend a good amount of time in different forms, where they regenerate but don't use mana. And, once again, there is Water to negate the benefits of mana regeneration.

Now, I guess what I am saying is that I would like to see a little more emphasis placed on Spirit. If Health is your concern you go Stamina. If Mana is your concern you go Intelligence. I would like to see Spirit benefit casters more. Intelligence is the stat that affects your spells, but I would like to see Spirit affect them too. Not as much as Intelligence, but if you invest in Spirit, I think you should see your spells improve a bit. If I recall correctly, Intelligence increases your chance to Crit, so why couldn't high Spirit increase the effect/range/duration a slight amount?

I would also like to see Spirit affect non-casters a little more too. Not exactly sure what to do here, but it could help resist "spirit" based attacks such as Daze or Fear. Maybe it could just help resists in general. Every 10-20 points in Spirit could increase you resistances by 1, for instance. Either that, or give some sort of boost to the regeneration.

I would like to hear if someone has some real statistics on Spirit regeneration of Health and Mana in and out of Combat. I am just going from what I see on my characters as my equipment changes. If someone can tell me what each Spirit translates to for each class, that would be cool, and if there is some information on other things Spirit might do for each class (such as Agility translating to different things for the Hunter vs. the Rogue, etc). But, from what I have seen, the stat is the worst of the lot, and while I don't avoid it, it almost always takes a back seat to the other stats.

I cannot convey enough just how valuable Spirit is for me when playing either my Priest or Shaman. I'm primarily a PvE player, focusing on instance dungeons in groups ranging from 5 to 40 players. With my Priest, Spirit is by far my most valuable attribute, with Intelligence being a close second. As a healer with high Spirit, the amount of mana I gain from being a strategic healer will allow me much greater control over my own contribution potential in every single encounter.
