N00b question. . .
CAN SOMEBODY please explain how in the world it makes sense for everyone to pass on BoP items and then roll for them after you pass? It seems ridiculous to pass when you want to roll just so you can roll when you're done passing.
Then, there's the other issue - ninjaing after everyone's passed. What're you going to do after they pick it up after everyone's passed and you're calmly discussing who should get said item? Tell them very sternly that they're bad people? It's happened to me twice already, and I tell you now, I WILL ROLL ON BoP ITEMS I WANT!
Unless of course somebody can tell me how this possibly makes sense.

When I'm in a pick-up-group, I prefer to have everyone pass on Bind on Pickups and /roll afterward. This is my preference due to the fact that very often, players will loot during battle, and mistakes tend to occur more frequently when the roll window pops and someone's not fully focused on their decision because of the fight at hand. Concerning the "ninja loot" factor that may arise from having everyone pass, I've personally seen more items lost due to mistakes made from players using the roll window and winning an item they cannot use compared to someone outright stealing an item that everyone has passed upon.
Another reason this is my preference is because I don't always roll on items I can use. I like to take my time inspecting everyone that can use the item and determine how much of an improvement it is for me vs. someone else. It's fun to spread the loot around to everyone involved.
In any case, I've grouped several times using other rules. Mostly, I will do whatever the entire group is comfortable doing and just want everyone to be on the same page with whatever is decided.

Q u o t e: Concerning an employee like yourself doesn't even use the loot window, wouldn't that suggest that this thing needs a complete overhaul? I find that kind of ironic. (And yes I've tried the coin on the test servers, but that's not really anything groundbreaking.)
I wouldn't suggest that it needs an overhaul at all, Drakkisath. As I already stated there are a number of instances where I'm grouped with players that prefer the Group Loot system, and if such is the case and everyone in the group is comfortable with doing so, I'm all for it. I don't dislike the group looting system, it's simply not my personal preference in most situations.
Q u o t e: Eyonix why don't you all just put the cancel button on one side of the window and the roll button on the OTHER side? Otherwise they're no more than 5 millimeters away from eachother like they are now. That could significantly reduce accidents, no? :)
I don't believe the location of the cancel button has anything to do with the mistakes, at least during the times mistakes were made in my groups. The mistake would consist of choosing to roll and then moving your mouse to a window which basically states, "yes I would like to roll and receive this bind on pick-up item".
In short, I used the term mistakes loosely. I don't believe it is usually a mistake when problems like this occur. I do however, always give the benefit of the doubt and move on accordingly.[ post edited by Eyonix ]

Q u o t e: It's called master looter, dude.
I don't know that I've ever been in a pick-up-group where everyone trusted one and other enough to use Master Looter, Thrombin. You're having much better luck finding groups comprised of trustful players than I, it would seem.

Q u o t e: I've yet to do a pickup ubrs run without master looter on for bosses. It's becoming the de facto standard. Of course you'd know that if you actually played with your gamer base.
Q u o t e: Wow, there are ninja looters on the Blizzard employee only servers you play on? (gasp)
We're having a discussion here, Forumalt. Which means that I insist that you refrain from attacking me or anyone involved. If you're unable to hold a conversation without making an attack, please logout of the forums and lay down.
I'm happy to hear that you're using Master Looter for your UBRS runs during boss fights. On the two realms which I'm active (live public realms), this is simply not the standard. I'm not against other preferences in looting, I'm simply listing mine, and what's common for me.
