It was tongue-in-cheek.
I understand your position, but remember too that World of Warcraft is a game, and we work for a company that makes them. We all have a great deal of passion towards the game, and while "WOW IS SERIOUS BUSINESS" 90% of the time, it's nice once in a great while to shuck off the shoes, kick up one's heels, and smile with the playerbase. All of us play this game and are part of the community; on rare occasions, we let the silly side of our staff show. :)

Q u o t e: With all do respect, I hold a reasonable position in a company and I am held responsible for what I say and do while I am at work and when I am off work. People who read these forums don't always know when you are "off" and when you are "on". They assume a blue post is an official post. You should not be posting nonsense at anytime because it can be misunderstood as an official response. I have to stand by my opinion that your conduct is unprofessional.
If you wish to let my supervisor know how you feel, you're welcome to eMail wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com.
I respectfully submit this, however.
This is a period of mild community stagnation. The new patch has been on the Test Realm for ages, the previews are done, and the same old topics are being rehashed on the forums. Threads are starting to cannibalize each other. People find themselves mildly irritable.
Now, I have nothing "professional" to offer in a manner that will help alleviate these issues, as I've no new information to give or fresh insight on the upcoming patch to share. The majority of questions being asked have been answered time and again.
My job is Community Management. When I've no information or insight to offer, how is it that I can contribute to the community and help it turn away from the sniping and stagnation? In many ways, bringing a simple smile to the faces of those who inhabit these forums often can aid a great deal.
We're not silly all the time. This is far from the norm. But an occasional fun outbreak like this is enjoyable for both us and the players -- it demonstrates that we're human and we have a sense of humor, that we identify with where you are and are doing our part to entertain on what, at its heart, is a project meant for entertainment.
In short, I'm fairly certain I'm acting within the bounds of my job description and aiding the community I'm tasked with managing. I do thank you for your feedback, however. :)

You are apparently under the mistaken assumption that I can give a different answer than the one I've been giving to those questions, which isn't true.
Take for example the RP-PvP situation. I have explained several times that yes, it requires a patch to bring about. I have explained why. I have explained why it cannot be patched now and why it's waiting. I have given all the answers I have -- I can't change those answers just because a few people aren't satisfied with them. The reality of the situation prevents me from doing so. Yet despite the fact that I have given lengthy and sincere answers to these questions, the question continues to be asked.
It's a period of stagnation, as I've said. There's little new to discuss, as the players are awaiting the patch that has not yet come. Now, I'm not entirely positive of what you're implying when you state that they have not been given satisfactory answers, but I have given the community what I can give on the pertinent subjects. I cannot spirit information out of thin air -- if I can't speak further on a subject, that's all there is to it.
Again, I do appreciate the feedback, but this is my community to manage, and I've been doing so for over a year now. Message boards are a strange beast -- as a veteran of managing the communities that arise around the medium, I know well the ebb and flow as outside circumstances change the mood of the community. This is an ebb. You may disagree that a bit of humanity and good-natured fun aids the community, but I submit that these events -- rare, and always late at night -- boost the spirits of the community at large for a short while.
Blizzard Entertainment is running a business, but we are all of us -- from top to bottom -- gamers, and we hold the passion of both creating and enjoying games. To lose sight of the fact that, in the end, you're all here to have fun is to become blinded to the reason we all love what we do. Creating and bringing merriment into someone else's life is no small thing.
As for the supervisor eMail, I viewed your comment as a submission that our behavior was unsatisfactory; the best way to get that truly heard is to contact our supervisors. I have no problem with you doing so. My supervisor, however, does not mind the "silly" bouts provided they are in moderation.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Community management is more than just moderating the forums, actually. Again, I do appreciate the feedback, but I've done this before, and the long-term effects are generally worth it. :)

Koio.
This is not the proper place to voice this.
If you have a question about a forum ban - wowreportedpost@blizzard.com.
If you have feedback about the CM staff - wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com.
You should get a response from the first one in time. You may not from the second, as my supervisor is a busy fellow and while he does read it, he doesn't necessarily have time to respond.
Incidentally, I reviewed your account, and you were not struck with a permaban out of the blue. You progressed up the ladder of punishment properly, and it's noted on your account. Also, understand that circumvention of a ban is against the rules, which you are technically doing by posting this.
This is not the place to post if you want something to change regarding this subject. You've been given the outlet; please use it.[ post edited by Caydiem ]
