I understand not wanting to bring up the test servers prior to having the patch notes finalized (translated, whatever). But what is the harm in releasing the 1.7 notes (assuming they are locked in) prior to the servers coming online?
CMs keep saying "1.7 notes will be posted when the servers come up". Why wait??[ post edited by Scaryberry ]

Why wait?
In the past, we've tried giving the notes ahead of time. In general, some folks tend to get worked up over changes that they haven't even had the chance to test yet, and the forums become a Land of Flame and Strife until the Test Realms are released.
These days we tend to skip that part and let folks check out the changes firsthand. ;)

Trust me, this is nowhere near how it becomes if patch notes are released early. ;)

Q u o t e: This from the same people who tell us Blizzard doesn't do things based on what the people on the forums say? I don't get it, seems contradictory to me.
And I agree with the poster who said the forums are like that daily anyway. It's disappointing, but true.
That was in reference to the designers changing the game, actually. I, being tasked with managing the community, need to make decisions based on past experiences with the forums at times. :P

Q u o t e: so when can we expect a test realm? surely you can tell us that.
Oh, and Caydiem, a week or so ago you said the test servers werent released because of "Localization problems, mainly". does it really take this long to "Localize" your patchnotes? =(
Actually, that's not true.
I said the patch notes were delayed due to localization -- that has nothing to do with when the test realm is released. The latter will occur when everything's set and ready, and the patch notes will be released then. This isn't up for negotiation. :P

People will get mad either way, yes, but there's a distinct difference in waiting.
If we publish them now, the community gets upset over X because they feel it's a huge nerf or will unbalance the game. They have no proof to the contrary, and nothing we say -- regardless of how much information we have to back it up -- will be taken as truth until they see it for themselves. The sky's the limit on how exaggerated this can get until the proof is available.
If we publish them when the Test Realm is live, the community gets upset over X because they feel it's a huge nerf or will unbalance the game. A, B, C, and D players test it on the test realm and return with their conclusions. A discussion -- perhaps still angry, but more grounded in reality -- ensues.
While I appreciate your thoughts on my prowess, Seadan, telling them to my face will not aid you. Please eMail wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com with your concerns. I, in the meantime, will continue to operate based on what I know of the community and with a decent understanding of the result of either choice. Given the decision, I would rather people be asking when the patch notes are coming out rather than starting a conflagration over something that isn't a large deal.
